Someone should figure out what Stanek’s ERA is while Roycroft is in the bullpen with him vs without Roycroft.

This was one of those baseball games that should have never been placed in the wrong column…Twice!

Bah, lost two one run games in a row. Even with missed opportunities, have to like the offense in this one. As jnevel noted, Blaze seems a lot more likely to give you a competitive at bat in a key situation than did Gorman. Crooks 1 of 3 with a walk. Lick ’em tomorrow.

I officially hate Ryne Stanek. There simply is no reason for him wasting a roster spot when he is freaking terrible. There are better options than him in the system. Its been a long time since I’ve this angry after a loss but that was brutal. Just brutal. I don’t think I have ever hated a Cardinals player as much as I hate Stanek at this moment.

The mighty Dodgers get trounced by a score of 8-2 tonight on the South side. I haven’t seen them play this season, but the Sox may have something good going over in the ALC.

Haha!…I’m left with the impression that you don’t like him even a little bit, BlackHills…

Was at the ballfield tonight so didnt get to watch. But if you told me cards were going to score 8 runs, i would have bet a winner vs twins but no such luck. Oh well

“I officially hate Ryne Stanek. There simply is no reason for him wasting a roster spot when he is freaking terrible.”

There are 3.5 million reasons. Don’t blame Stanek for being incompetent; he’s doing the best he can.

Blame the incompetent GM who signed him to a $3.5MM contract that by default kinda sorta forces the incompetent manager to send him out there again and again. Reminder: Stanek was bad in 2025. Stanek was also bad in 2024. There was no reason to sign him to a guaranteed contract of any size.

The thing about Ollie, is that he continues using Stanek in relatively high leverage situations. There’s ZERO justification for THAT, regardless of the man’s salary. (Last I checked, Stanek had one of the worst 4 or 5 tallies of all MLB relievers, in terms of Win Probability Added. Because Marmol places far, far too much faith in him. After tonight’s debacle, Stanek may very well have the single worst WPA in the majors. And Marmol is his accomplice in that.)

Stanek sucks…plain and simple. We all knew he would blow the game. Marmol is being a stubborn idiot for allowing the guy to stay in the game, way to long. This choke job is on Marmol.

As soon as Stanek came in the game, I was waiting for all of us to watch some of his pitches get tagged and leave the yard. What a joke that he even sees a pitchers mound. Thanks Oli.

Like I said previously, when the team is winning, the manager looks good. It doesn’t mean he is good.

Jordan didn’t get much work over at 3rd as I recall. He seems athletic enough, at least. Any thoughts?

I don’t really have a problem with them giving Stanek a $3.5 million contract this year. That isn’t much money at all to the team and was a shit to try and get a RP to hold up some value. It hasn’t worked out though plain and simple.

Graceffo is interesting in that his ERA makes him look like a lock down RP, but everything else says he is due for his extreme good luck to turn at some point. He has a .163 BABIP and no way he keeps it that low over the year. His FIP is 4.59 which is not good for a RP and the rest of his ERA predictors are over 5. I’m not suggesting they cut him but stating be very wary of a major regression coming from Graceffo.

I only saw parts of the game, but from what I saw it would be hard to evaluate Jordan’s defense. Everything I saw was hit right at him. He likely isn’t very quick footed but his hands may be fine. Again hard to say in the few easy GBs

Stanek didn’t pitch badly. The 3-run HR by Clemens was off a splitter that just caught the bottom edge of the plate. That pitch is usually a called strike or swing and miss. The HR ball thrown to Lewis was slightly elevated, but pretty far in. The HR ball thrown to Lee for the 9th Twins run was a cookie, probably because Stanek was so deflated by that time that he lost track of what he was supposed to be doing. Next game is this evening, 7 PM.
