Walker very well may be “blocking” himself in the sense that he just turned 24 years of age a week ago. In my estimation, he fully qualifies for the definition of a young OF’er…
Marmol said they’ll look to maintain the same catching rotation with Herrera (McGreevy, Pallante) but that Crooks is not here to sit. That means a big bite out of Pagés’ time, which Marmol said he’s been an “absolute pro” about.

Oddly enough, Velasquez has a better OPS vs. righties (.792) than lefties (.682) so far this season. I wonder if he had a clause that he could leave mid-season if he wasn’t in the big leagues. He is out of options, so if he doesn’t stick, we have to run him through waivers. I wonder if he will primarily be a righty DH/PH, thump off the bench. His defense is a bit of an adventure.
Blaze Jordan has better splits against righties, too, but Baez has crushed lefties so far this year, more so than righties.
Jimmy *Lee Crooks will handle the class jump with ease. I’m making a prediction……a rather bold prediction….that by season’s end, Jimmy will be referred to as the “cubs Killer” by many.

* I will always give you the correct middle name…..except for with Jimmy. His actual middle name is “Dale”, but I think “Lee” rolls off the tongue with pure perfection in association with his name……Jimmy Lee Crooks…….he may make it to Cooperstown by merely the sound of his name.
Yeah, names are extremely important regarding induction to Cooperstown. I fully expect Manny Motter to sneak in there. I’m thinking election by veterans committee.
And I’d have to say that So Taguchi is a dead lock for Cooperstown…During the ’06 NLCS, I happened to notice an extremely attractive and buxom young lady on the way into the gate at the ballpark prior to game #3 who was sporting a T-Shirt with a bold message printed at chest high level that read, “Hey NY, Kiss My TAGUCHI!”
I know it was inevitable but I was nonetheless saddened to see Pozo’s departure. He seemed like such a good guy, at least as viewed on the TV screen, did everything that was asked of him and looked like he was having a good time in the process.
Din-din was unspectacular this evening, simply fried eggs necessitated by the installation of a new front tooth crown this afternoon. I’m about to continue the soft touch with a dish of vanilla ice cream, topped with a bit of chocolate sauce.

I wonder what the logic is regarding Velasquez slotted at cleanup? Only the little whiz-kid knows the answer to that enigma.
If a player batting .300 with a .944 OPS and 15 HRs in 226 PAs is “blocking” someone, I want to see that player that is being blocked.
I have no idea what you are talking about. A player with a .944 OPS has his position thoroughly blocked. My point was that between Walker in RF and Noot soon to be in LF, any outfield prospect would be blocked unless he played center. You seem to agree with that as far as I can tell, so what point are you making?
Or how Burly felt getting knocked down a peg in the batting lineup, TD? My guess is that Velasquez responds very well to positive reinforcement. Batting cleanup in his first start should do the trick.
Hey Rat. Any chance that some of that big green stuff on your Doppler radar can make it’s way to the ol’ ballpark tonight? The earlier the better.
A 29 pitch 3 run 1st inning is not what we hoped for. He could have got out of it unscathed at about the 13th pitch if he could have got his glove down on that grounder up the middle…..and then just a few pitches later when he jammed Bregman with 2 strikes, but the ball just managed to “find grass” as Buck stated.
If the game keeps going at this pace, we’ll be knotted up at 27-27 heading to the 10th. It wouldn’t do wonders for our team ERA, but it sure would be fun to watch.
Oh oh, here’s 2 outs again, where it all unraveled for Pallante last inning….and just like that Dansby swipes 2nd and Nico walks. In steps Busch and he hits a soft single to left scoring Swanson and the cubs reclaim the lead at 4-3. Bregman flies out to Scott in short center to limit the damage to a mere run. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m counting the batters until Velasquez steps in again.
It’s very scary, TD.
