And The Beat Goes On!
April 21, 2026 at 9:03 pm #305576Indeed Wooster! Fantastic outing and season so far from Riley. The Cardinals definitely played the long game to get him healthy and help him develop. It’s paying dividends.
ESPN listed him as our most likely player to be traded. They may be right, but I would have said May was most likely.
April 21, 2026 at 9:04 pm #305577Yeah, they should trade him. Lots of value…
April 21, 2026 at 9:09 pm #305578Looks like the Cubbies may hang a 7th consecutive W up on the board as they enjoy a 6-3 8th inning lead over the Phillies at Wrigley.
April 21, 2026 at 9:13 pm #305579And the Mets hang another number in the wrong column as they lose their 12th consecutive game against the Twins in NY. They’ll try for the bakers’ dozen tomorrow…
April 21, 2026 at 9:14 pm #305580I think if they had 2 more solid releif pitchers and a catcher that could hit over .240 they could be pretty solid this year.
O’Brien and Romero both are going to be interesting ones around the trade deadline…probably depend on where they are in the standings
April 21, 2026 at 9:15 pm #305581Haha…The Mets are 8.5 games off the pace in the NLE. They could be beyond the point before the May flowers arrive.
April 21, 2026 at 9:22 pm #305582I’d say that at least 2 or 3 arms are going to have to emerge as reasonably decent for this seasons’ BP edition to carry a seasons’ worth of workload and be effective. Then, there’s the rotation to worry about…Then, some bats in the 7, 8 and 9 slots are going to have to generate more than once a month production…On the sunny side, the ’26 edition has been fun to watch. So far…
April 21, 2026 at 9:37 pm #305583In ’22 Helsley went on a similar pitching streak as has O’Brien. He didn’t allow an ER until his 15th appearance in the Cardinals first 48 games while working 17.1 IP’ed to begin the ’22 season. However, he collected only 3 SV’s during those 15 appearances. The Bogsider from Derry’s collected 7 SV’s during 13.1 innings of work in 13 appearances during the Redbirds first 23 games to begin the ’26 season and has yet to allow an ER. He’s been the linchpin so far.
April 21, 2026 at 9:52 pm #305584The pen is the area where homegrowns do not play a significant role. Theoretically, that will evolve over the next couple years. Hopefully it can do some evolving as this season progresses.
April 21, 2026 at 9:52 pm #305585I would guess at some point Nootbar gets back…if he can hit .240 or better that would be a lift for the OF offense, I’d like to see Scott hit better but his coverage in CF is pretty important right now.
May, McGreevy, Libby, Leahy and Pallante have been decent….No real lockdown starter but they usually keep them in games
The Bullpen is a big issue though…might be interesting when Dobbins is ready on what they do with either Pallante or Leahy….1 of those 3 will have to go to the Pen
I have to think at some point Crooks is going to be up for either Pages or Pozo if he keeps hitting w/ power…think he is hitting around .285 with 7 or 8 HR’s at Memphis.
April 22, 2026 at 10:58 am #305604Update from the college game last night. The Hogs score 8 in the bottom of the 8th to beat the Bears 12-4. Ryder Helfrick hit a 3 run HR to lead the way. One of the Missouri St. relivers was named Charlie Spoonhour. I am sure he must have been related to the former and now deceased SMSU and SLU basketball coach. I am guessing this kid may have been his grandson.
As for Cards game I am glad we won but Stanek must have invested in a lot of stock in Mylanta and Maalox.
April 22, 2026 at 11:15 am #305606Unsure why the team would trade O’Brien even if they are out of it. He has 4 more years of team control left and I would expect the team to contend within that time period.
