LHP Matthew Liberatore (4-6, 4.08) vs. RHP Ben Brown (4-5, 5.57)
FanDuel // KMOX // WIJRJune 23, 2025 at 11:48 am #285389We need to pound this young rookie with the high ERA because we know the Cubs will put some runs on the board. They have a deep and potent lineup. Dang it I wish we had Herrera for this series.
June 23, 2025 at 2:05 pm #285390Indeed Scotty, our boys need to pounce on this Ben “Downtown” Brown fellow early and often, so to give us a nice little cushion. This series has “SPLIT” written all over it, but the goal in ANY series is to sweep it. But with that being said, I won’t lose any sleep if we take them 3 out of 4 games.
And what’s for din-din tonight one may ask? How does breakfast for din-din grab you? It’ll be 3 medium poached eggs(melted butter, salt and pepper on top)over two pieces of white toast, all beef sausage links, biscuits and gravy, waffles drenched in butter and syrup, and a steaming hot cup of Folger’s black silk coffee to wash it all down with.
I have a buddy whom is a cubs fan, always telling me that Pete Crow-Armstrong is the fastest guy in baseball. I of course disagree, saying that even Victor Scott is faster. Maybe this series will shed some light on which one is faster.
June 23, 2025 at 2:26 pm #285391Going to get wings and watch this with a die hard Cubs fan in a few hours….

June 23, 2025 at 2:28 pm #285392Isn’t today the anniversary of the Sandberg/Sutter game back in 1984?
I had to do some push mowing and then spray some weedkiller in the landscaping. It’s past 3:30 here and I am just now sitting down to din-din. Which will be a Hungry Man’s Turkey TV dinner, some bread and butter, an ice cold slushy Mt. Dew, and a chocolate shake for dessert.
Tomorrow is a big day. Planning on going to Evansville and stop at the Eastland Mall, then over to the pool/billiards store, then back home to stop at the grocery. Then once I get the groceries put away it will be time for a bath for Whitey Herdog!

June 23, 2025 at 2:29 pm #285393Go with the Ken Oberkfell jersey, CardsFanInChiTown.
June 23, 2025 at 2:33 pm #285395Sounds about the right date, Rat. It’s one of those ultra significant events where you always remember where you were on that day. I was in Phoenix at a friend’s house just off Dunlap Avenue, watching the game.
June 23, 2025 at 3:09 pm #285397Isn’t today the anniversary of the Sandberg/Sutter game back in 1984?
Yes indeed. It was 6-23-84. I remember it like it was yesterday. To be honest I never really had strong feelings against the Cubs before that day because they were always so bad. But for the last 41 years I have wished nothing but L’s for the northsiders.

My all time favorite player hit for the cycle that day.
June 23, 2025 at 5:12 pm #285400Weather wise it looks all clear for tonight’s titanic struggle. There’s a few small cells to the west of St. Louis in the Kansas area but they appear to be moving NE instead of east.
Will be sticky and humid at Busch III tonight.
Time to jump in the tub, soak my aching back, get some Mt. Dew and a cigar, and watch the first few innings of the New York Highlanders at the Cincinnati Redlegs from Crosley Field.
June 23, 2025 at 5:38 pm #285401You get the sense that if we do not at least split this series, we will slip slowly out of any contention we might now be in. A sweep by the blue boys and our goose is cooked. Lose 3 of 4 and it’s like, “Yeah, they are pretty darn good this year.”
A split kicks the can down the road. Win 3 of 4 and we look legit!
On the din-din front, the Lovely Lady Bike put a pork roast in the crockpot, then much later shredded it. She is going over to her daughter’s place so I am leaning on throwing some in a tortilla with 505 Green Chili and having some burrito style.
June 23, 2025 at 5:39 pm #285402Judging from all the prior comments, I’m guessing that today really is the anniversary of the Sandberg/Sutter/McGee game of ’84, but I watched that game from start to finish on a live television broadcast, and I’m almost entirely certain that it was played on a Saturday…
June 23, 2025 at 5:45 pm #285403I also don’t concider them a true (hated) rival. They play in a different state and and time zone and it’s a 6 hour drive to Chi’ for Crissakes!
I hate the friggin Royals since the Deckenger debacle. The REAL Central div rivals are Cubs/Brwers. Cub fans POUR into Milwaukee like rats in Hamlin town and make more noise than Brew fans!
June 23, 2025 at 6:03 pm #285404I’d have to say that in my lifetime the Cardinals/Cubs rivalry reached it’s zenith with the TLR/Dusty love affair during the period when ‘ol Dusty was situated on the top step of the Cubbies dugout. Those two seemed to have a genuine heartfelt affection towards one another and it was always entertaining to see those two express their mutual affinity from each of their respective dugouts while they lovingly stared into each other’s eyes from across the IF grass…This mixed up world of ours could certainly use more examples of the golden rule and genuine brotherly love that was so clearly expressed by the TLR/Dusty lovefest…
June 23, 2025 at 6:13 pm #285405If there’s any solace attatched to not playing the team you’re chasing until the week before July, it’s knowing that after these 4 games in StL. the Cardinals will still have 9 games remaining with the Cubbies this year which include a 3 game series at Wrigley to close out the ’25 regular season…Imagine that. In any case, I like our chances in these 4 games and even though I never make predictions, especially about the future, I’m going to guess that the Redbirds win the first 3 games of this 4 game set to stir up the race in the NLC.
June 23, 2025 at 6:13 pm #285406Carter…….the Brewers-cubs rivalry is intense, but it still does not eclipse the Cards-cubs one. And yes, the McGee/Sandberg game did occur on a Saturday afternoon(Game of the Week) at Wrigley, TD. I know last year at this time, Ryno was battling cancer. As much as I disliked him as a player, I’m still praying for a full recovery for him.
June 23, 2025 at 6:16 pm #285407Well, if it was indeed played on a Saturday, how could the anniversary be on a Monday? I need more coffee…Haha!
June 23, 2025 at 6:21 pm #285408Not to worry, TD…….it’ll be on a Saturday again in a few years.
June 23, 2025 at 6:35 pm #285411Haha…Thanks Pugs, I feel a whole lot better now!
June 23, 2025 at 6:44 pm #285415
June 23, 2025 at 6:47 pm #285416Pugs, I acually missed most of that game and was STUNNED that we lost! (glad I did) 🙁
June 23, 2025 at 6:55 pm #285417A good case can be made that the photo contains 2 HOF’ers. One of them would have undoubtedly been awarded more GG’s in CF if not for guys with names like Flood and Mays.
June 23, 2025 at 7:00 pm #285418OMG is that Vada Pinson, Dom? I should have looked closer at the “C” on the cap. I thought it was a young Banks!
June 23, 2025 at 7:02 pm #285419Let’s hope Brown needs more than 6 pitches to work thru the 2nd inning.
June 23, 2025 at 7:03 pm #285420I thought it was Frank…
