Man, I would never recommend anyone start with that stance Herrera uses, but it works for him and I would not change a thing he does.

Really great news to get Skubal out of there in the 6th inning though only down 1 run. 3 innings to get to the pen and take the lead.

Haha BikeMike. I agree. He is as open as possible. Sometimes I notice his left toes are right on the outside of the box line. It just looks uncomfortable even.

I loved that stroke by Herrera. Perfectly executed. I call a task completed that precisely a process. Man, there’s no luck in that.

I think that stroke is why Herrera will continually run one of the Cards batting averages even as his BABIP drops down. He is a great hitter and uses the whole field with some good thump to the ball.

I might have hit Burly for Walker here….but Jordan gets the infield hit. Maybe hit Burly for Pages here.

Walker with a hit to load the bases.

BikeMike, I know I’m sending this after he got a hit, but I leave Walker in there. I’m playing the long game and letting him think I have confidence in him to come through.

Matz got Baez to really reach to induce the weak GB to Nado. I’d rather get beat by almost anyone other that Baez.

At one time the Cubs had a couple of shortstops that looked like future stars, Baez and Addison Russell. When each guy started out I thought “Uh-oh, these guys are going to kill us over the years.” But both guys sort of flat-lined; Russell especially.

I’m not entirely sure that’s Steve Matz out there. He genuinely looks confident. Looks like an altogether different guy.

None of our lefties had a hit vs Skubal but Vic drew a walk. The righties showed up for 5 hits and 3 runs.

Victor with a leadoff double. Play some small ball and tie the game up.

That’s a lead-off double that puts a Ferrari at 2B with no outs. Push this run across!

Would you guys back the dump truck full of money to Skubal’s house in 2 years if he does reach FA. He would be 30 years old when he reaches FA

Who wouldn’t want him? But I doubt they would spend to that level AND extend the contracts of Donovan Winn Herrera Lib etc. Like the etc. Standing on second. The lost draft choice is also a thing.

Picture perfect. Leadoff double and small ball to drive the run in. I’ll say again Noot is great at making productive outs

I doubt they spend the money either, but it would be fun to see Skubal regularly if they did. The Cards don’t have much in commitments though so they could in theory spend the money if they wanted. We will see who they extend with Bloom at the helm.
