I’d say this team is playing pretty well…They came real close to sweeping a real good Phillies team in their own ballpark. And I didn’t get to see it, but clawing back from a 5 run 1st inning barrage spells a team with no quit.
There’s a reason I don’t gamble. I didn’t think there was any way this team goes anywhere. But here they are without any offense from Gorman and Walker. I think Winn is the best player on this team. But a healthy Noot has been invaluable. It’s still way early. But tonight’s second game was impressive
So while the Cardinals play the Phillies, Royals, and Tigers who are a combined 79-52, the Cubs play the Marlins, White Sox, and Rockies who are a combined 37-90. Just keeping ground this week and a half will be tough. At least it evens out in the end and the Cards will get their turn with the cellar dwellers at some point while the Cubs play the league’s best.

What’s genuinely first rate stupid is that the Cardinals have yet to play the Cubs this season, and won’t see them for another month and a half. Meanwhile, they play 21 games vs. AL teams before their first game of the season against the Cubs on June 23rd. When you think about that, it serves to question whether or not this league retains a sliver of credibility.
You are right Dom. Plain stupid they can’t even out the schedule. You should be playing your division at different parts of the season. Maybe it’s too much trouble for them.

I would prefer a schedule that features more intra-division games. But the counter to that, and the comments I would hear when MLB did have more divisional games, was that fans preferred to see more variety in visiting teams rather than having so many games against the same teams all the time.
So there is some reasonable justification for the more balanced schedule. Again, I am more old school in that I think you should play your divisional rivals more than non-division and non-league opponents. But if most people feel that seeing the Cardinals play a bunch of games against the Reds and Pirates is not worth giving up games against the Yankees and Royals, then I can understand it. I don’t agree with it, but understand where they are coming from.
I’d be just as happy going back to the old National League/American League play for the whole season, then do an elimination series with all the divisional winners.
