I wouldn’t hate it if the Cards went to the bullpen in the 7th. They are all super well rested and need work. They probably will stay with Pallante for 1 more though.

Pallante gets a scoreless 7th and now starts the 8th with a dribbler that evades Gorman’s glove.

And Crews goes yard making it 4-2. Now we turn to the pen. There was no good reason to keep Pallante in for the 8th here except friendly competition amongst pitchers.

I was so hoping we’d tack on another 4+ runs after plating those 4 early tallies, as there’s few things that bring me more joy than issuing a “call off the dogs” request. For those newbies here, an official “call off the dogs” summons can only be presented when the Cardinals lead by 8 or more runs after the 5th inning.

The most recent 4 turns from the rotation have now produced a combined total of 30.1 innings of work and allowed 4 ER’s.

Good pitching by Romero. He gave up a double and walk, but he still was sharp pitching to some of the Nationals best hitters.

Yeah, he preserved the lead, but for a minute there I was afraid that poodle under his cap was going to bite him.

Pedro Jose Pages has a way of growing on you.

Pugs – He grew on me a long time ago. He handles pitchers well. He snap throws behind runners in key moments. He is good at throwing out runners. Solid framing. He makes contact – especially when the situation dictates it. And he often comes through in key moments.

Another tense moment for Helsley as he faces Bell with 2 down and 1 on.

And a walk brings the winning run to the plate. Never easy.

I’m still trying to grasp the tangible prospect of being just one itty bitty game behind the cubbies by night’s end. How is this legitimately possible? Erich Weisz himself (aka Harry Houdini) couldn’t have pulled this off so quickly.

Seven in a row is obviously something to get amped about, but what may be even more encouraging is that the last four turns from the rotation have tricked me in to thinking I was watching WTBS in the 90’s.

Lucky 7! Busy working around the yard and garage today but listened to the KMOX broadcast. Pushed it a little too close at the end, but got ‘er done.
