stlcard25ParticipantNice job by Libby tonight. Is he turning into the pitcher we were all hoping he’d be when we traded Randy Arozarena for him?
May 6, 2025 at 8:31 pm #281395Alright, that likely does it for Libby. Great job. Seems to be maturing into a solid starter.
May 6, 2025 at 8:32 pm #281396stlcard25, who knows, we may look back at that trade in a couple of years thinking we won. Liberatore is 5 years younger than Arozarena and would still have 4 years of control left after this year.
May 6, 2025 at 8:33 pm #281397Is Matz the best RP we have at this point outside of Helsey? I think he may be at this point
May 6, 2025 at 8:34 pm #281398Scott with a single. Now use that speed to get in scoring position
May 6, 2025 at 8:35 pm #281399At one time the notion existed that many pitchers actually grew more effective as the pitch count increased. Has that idea been proven to be false?
May 6, 2025 at 8:36 pm #281400Thought Victor would run on the 2-1 pitch.

jj-cf-stlParticipantOur catchers are being very competitive vs the running game.
May 6, 2025 at 8:41 pm #281402Well that did not work out too well. The 2-1 pitch is the ideal time to run. Waiting for 2-2 is tough as the hitter has to swing at anything close.

jj-cf-stlParticipantTop of the 8th, 2-1 StL
Fourth time thru their order.May 6, 2025 at 8:45 pm #281404The only knock that I have on Scott is his arm. All the other parts of his game looks like he will be very good. If he keeps up what he has done so far this year, he will be in the running for some team MVP votes.
May 6, 2025 at 8:49 pm #281405You watch Scott play center field and think about how good Willie Mays was. It is almost mind boggling, as Mays was like Scott in centerfield, but had a great arm and hit 50+ homers a couple of times.
Unreal!
May 6, 2025 at 8:54 pm #281407Man, Hayes really covered some ground on that bouncer by Donovan. Not sure I have seen a third baseman get to the middle of the diamond that quick.
May 6, 2025 at 8:56 pm #281409Graceffo? Hmm – thought maybe Ollie would stick with Matz if he did not want to use Helsley.
May 6, 2025 at 8:56 pm #281410I’m surprised at the lack of turnout at the game tonight with Skenes on the mound. If I lived within an hour of the city I would drive up just to watch Skenes. It looks like minor league games could have more attendance than tonight’s crowd.
May 6, 2025 at 8:57 pm #281411Graceffo in for the save in a 1 run game is a bold move. Fingers crossed it works out as Graceffo has some days he is just off
May 6, 2025 at 8:58 pm #281412
jj-cf-stlParticipantFind out about em’ kind of season.
May 6, 2025 at 9:01 pm #281413
jj-cf-stlParticipant2-1 StL
FinalMay 6, 2025 at 9:01 pm #281414Winner, winner. That was a great game and great job by both pitching staffs. These low scoring pitcher duels are my favorite to watch.
May 6, 2025 at 9:02 pm #281415Game ball to Libby for 7 very good innings, a hat tip to Burly for the offense, and a hat tip to Graceffo for a good 9th and his 1st career save.
May 6, 2025 at 9:03 pm #281416Gotta hand it to Ollie on that one. Graceffo does a great job, and that is a nice confidence builder.
Really good game. We beat Skenes in Pittsburgh 2-1 last year, and do it here again. Burly the winning RBI both times.
May 6, 2025 at 9:03 pm #281417That’s a W W W W…Best of the season and looking for more.
May 6, 2025 at 9:04 pm #281418Gordon Graceffo's only pro save before tonight came on 8/25/21 when he threw three scoreless innings with 5 Ks for #STLCards Class-A Palm Beach. In his rookie year, he pitched in shorter stints but started in 2022 and after. pic.twitter.com/JRXKtl3cRH

May 6, 2025 at 9:26 pm #281419Excluding the rain delay game, Liberatore has pitched 6 or more innings every start this year in those 6 starts. Out of the 6 starts, he has a quality start in 5 of them.
That isn’t something you expect in today’s game and it is really nice seeing a guy go out there throwing 6+ every night.
May 6, 2025 at 10:49 pm #281420Well, at a shade more than 223 IP’ed for his young career he’s roughly 25 innings beyond a full season’s worth of work for a SP’er, so I’d say that he’s collected some valuable experience at the Big League level. It’s been my view that experience is the only genuine teacher in almost any endeavor, so hopefully experience is beginning to pay off for Liberatore. If it indeed is beginning to pay off, let’s hope he continues to improve his career numbers which read, 11-15 with a 4.63 ERA in 98 appearances that include 31 as the SP’er.
