Helsley needs to be pitching at least every third day whether the situation calls for it or not. He’s rusty as hell and there is only one solution.

Facing Skenes will be tough, but we roughed him up once, so hopefully we can again.

I’m glad it’s Libby facing Skenes and I wouldn’t have said that this winter.

Watched most of last night’s game but was not online. Tonight will be “must see TV”’with Skenes going.

Like what I see of Barrero, for the most part. He’s rough around the edges, but has that look. With that arm I am thinking you could put him in right field for a month and he would win the job over Walker.

We may not be too far from moving on from both Walker and Gorman, although both are still young and I would give them this year to audition. But my sense is some combo of Donovan, Barrero, and Saggese will be better than Walker and Gorman.

If Bloom can play his “Cards” right, he can deal from our depth at catcher, first base, and possibly Walker/Gorman and I build a strong pitching staff to where 2026 might see a big leap in success.

I am feeling the same way mike. I know that this is supposed to be a “development year” but watching Gorman and Walker slog through each day at the plate is cruel and unusual punishment. At some point we need to cut bait and get what we can for each of them.

Vic Scott is making me feel good about the near future. I already like Noot Donny and I think Winn is our best player. If Herrera blossoms and Westherholt arrives at the end of the year, we have hope. Manager?

Ditto gscottar. And mostly ditto KCB, thought I have a nagging worry that Winn might not hold up over the long haul and Herrera will end up an acceptable but ordinary catcher.

I’m not sure why Scott is batting 9th?????

I like Scott batting 9th. Especially with Nootbaar hitting 1st, Scott works as a secondary leadoff hitter there without putting added pressure on the kid. Noot becomes more of a 2 hitter if Scott is on base and I like that too. If you hit Scott 1 and move Noot to 2 and Donny hitting 3rd it makes the first 3 guys all LH too, and Noot and Donny need to be at the top. Leave it be for now wit Scott hitting 9 and let things work themselves out there.

Gorman results aren’t there, but watching his AB’s this year compared to last year are night and day. He looks much more comfortable at the plate, hands are getting to the zone quicker, and pitch recognition is much better. I don’t know if he’s ever a .260+ with 40+ HR they want him to be, but I think he’s made huge steps in the right direction of being a productive hitter. I said when he first came up a few years back I thought he was much more “Russell Branyan” than a star player. But Branyan was serviceable.

Walker is still pulling out terribly and getting fooled a lot. He’s young and was rushed. I’m not saying he won’t ever be anything, but some guys take longer to figure it out. If developing was actually focused on then he would need to be playing, but they held on to guys and winning needs to be the focus, and it is really hard for me to say he needs to be in the line-up until they start selling off a lot of these guys if they can’t be in contention.

After the night Barrero had, Winn is good to go!

Walker/Gorman? I can’t clump them together today. Gorman has quietly put up the 3rd best BB% on the roster. He’s hitting the ball hard but has the lowest BAbip on the roster. He’s using the whole field (oppo 20%, pull 24.4) and his career K% was 34.1% coming into the season, and is at 27.7% in 2025. It’s a nice trend that could lead nowhere.

    Edit– 27.3 K% in 2025.

I agree. Gorman hasn’t been awful. I know the overall stat line right now isn’t impressive, but watching him he looks much better and the underlying stats show quite the improvement.

Walker is going the other direction. The first 2 weeks his plate discipline was good and stayed inside the ball. Hopefully they can get him reset, again. He’s had the time off for private tutoring 🤞

Gorman has 11 hits and 1 HR in 77 chances. He’s been absent this season.

And Walker doesn’t even swing anymore. He either looks when he guesses wrong or he flails.

Unfortunately underlying stats don’t feed the bulldog. Results matter. As Tim McCarver used to say, “This is the big leagues man.”

Arenado will be gone at the trade deadline. Most likely.

That will give Gorman his BIG chance. Unless he fails miserably between now and late July the job is his. And then what he does the last 60 games will decide his 2026 fate. Which will either be back at 3rdbase for St. Louis or with some other team.

It’s time to fish or cut bait with some of these players.

And whether it’s the Big Leagues or the Little Ladies Boutique, production is measured at the net bottom line.

Cardinals have yet to string together 4 consecutive W’s this season. They’ll get their second chance to do so tonight. The last time they had a chance to reel off 4 in a row was after opening the season with 3 W’s vs. the Twins. Hopefully Skenes will step aside and let the Redbirds just walk on by, but I’d guess he’ll be standing in the way.

You are preaching to the choir on that one. He has been on cruise control for the better part of a decade.

The A’s host the Mariners tonight with a chance to move into 1st place in the ALW with a W. I had to look it up to see that their current ballpark is about 70 mi. from where they once won 3 consecutive WS championships. My dad absolutely despised those great A’s teams of the 70’s and my brother and I used to root for them just to get him riled up…Haha! I think he may have exagerrated his dislike for the A’s a little bit simply because he noticed how my brother and I laughed at his displeasure when the A’s won another post-season game…

I’m glad Gorman “Looks much more comfortable at the plate.” We wouldn’t want our .175 hitter to feel uncomfortable up there.
