jj-cf-stlParticipantHe’s letting the ball get deeper. Less out front timing that looks uncomfortable and out of balance, from a baseball perspective.
May 6, 2025 at 6:46 pm #281343It look like Brown has helped both Gorman and Walker in their approach. Walker is more balanced in his stance, but it has not translated to results yet.
Don’t recall Gorman doing that hand bob thing with the bat that he does now. That must be some sort of timing thing he is doing.
Again, I understand giving them both more time, but I don’t see too much improvement. Agree that Gorman looks a little more improved than Walker. Walker exudes a lack of confidence. That is why I like what I see of Barrero – has that “killer instinct” look. Walker looks a step behind most of the time.
May 6, 2025 at 7:01 pm #281344I don’t see a harm in giving either of Gorman and Walker more opportunities. This isn’t a playoff team. Stick with them as long as the team can to see if you can’t inspire some confidence in either one.
I know results are what matter at the end of the day, but at least Gorman is making some improvements in his approach. So far he has been much more selective and actually a good amount better than the average hitter this year at not swinging at pitches out of the zone. His contact rates are up a significant amount as well. It is the 2 strike approach for him as he needs some more confidence there and the ability to foul the ball off. As long as he is showing improvements, I keep putting him out there.
I also keep putting Walker out there despite the lack of results and regressions. His is a mental block as you can tell he is in his own head more than the other pitcher. Stick with him and see if he can just block out whatever thoughts he has.
May 6, 2025 at 7:03 pm #281345Liberatore started the game with 6 pitches that could not have been more perfectly placed. Something about his command has really improved this year as he hits his spots very well. That helps keep the walk rate down as well obviously, but he helps limit the damage.
May 6, 2025 at 7:09 pm #281346Is Luckenbach hurt? I haven’t seen him in a long time.
May 6, 2025 at 7:19 pm #281347Luckenback is just riding the pine. I would demote him for another player that is more versatile.
May 6, 2025 at 7:22 pm #281348It looks like Walker has gone back to his old stance with that front foot out and up on his toes.
That stance just looks wrong to me as he is way too far back with his weight and legs. It could work if he stepped into the pitch, but he leans back and anything on the outer half gets him.
Seems like Brown had him more balanced earlier and that front foot in a bit more and his weight more evenly distributed.

jj-cf-stlParticipantHack-a-holic mode. Walker swang at 3 pitches well out of the zone.
May 6, 2025 at 7:23 pm #281350Thanks, Albert. I haven’t even seen him in the dugout and thought he may be skint-up. He must be hiding in the tunnel or clubhouse because he’d be hard to miss on the bench…
May 6, 2025 at 7:23 pm #281351Baseball Savant must have added stance tracking at some point. Really interesting to compare the Cards batters between 2024 and 2025 to see what type of changes Brown has had them making.
The eye test shows this as well, but interesting to see a snapshot of the players from last year. Victor Scott in particular has had a complete transformation. Opening up his stance, closing his feet distance, and moving up in the zone.
May 6, 2025 at 7:25 pm #281352I mentioned earlier that Walker doesn’t swang anymore. He flails. Sometimes uncontrollability so…
May 6, 2025 at 7:26 pm #281353Bike, it is funny you posted that while I was busy typing out my post. Jordan has closed up his stance a good amount this year compared to last.
May 6, 2025 at 7:26 pm #281354
jj-cf-stlParticipantThat was strike 3 to Davis
May 6, 2025 at 7:28 pm #281355When Herrera comes back I would keep Pozo over “Home Run” Baker. But at some point Bloom/Mo has some nice depth to work with in a deal where we send one of those guys elsewhere. All three of our catchers are pretty good, and it will hurt seeing them have success elsewhere. But sometimes you gotta make the move.
In the ‘80s it was painful watching Leon “Bull” Durham as a Cub, but we got a Hall of Fame closer in the deal.
May 6, 2025 at 7:30 pm #281358Man, Victor is fun to watch in center field.
May 6, 2025 at 7:34 pm #281359Yes he is BikeMike. I thought that last out was for sure going to be a hit off the bat, but he made it look easy.
May 6, 2025 at 7:35 pm #281360Looks like I need to check that batting stance deal on my PC, ATM. I am using my cell phone to post (which I always do during games), and tapped the link but it is not letting me put in a player. Will check it out tomorrow.
May 6, 2025 at 7:39 pm #281361Baseball Savant is likely not a very mobile friendly site unfortunately
May 6, 2025 at 7:42 pm #281362Quick 8 pitch inning for Liberatore. Good to see to get his pitch count in line with what is needed to pitch 6+ today.
May 6, 2025 at 7:45 pm #281363
jj-cf-stlParticipantHe got a call on strike 3. Even now after Davis walk.
May 6, 2025 at 7:48 pm #281364A good pitching duel so far through 4. Skenes is just an exciting guy to watch. He makes that 100 MPH velo look so easy and has such incredible movement on his pitches while locating them like a finesse guy
May 6, 2025 at 7:52 pm #281365Wow, that lady celebrating her 90th time around the sun looks great! So let’s see, at 90 she was born a year after the Gas House Gang brought home our third championship. Really cool!
May 6, 2025 at 7:52 pm #281366Another masterful inning from Libby and 8 pitches again. Let’s see him go 7+ actually. Pitch locations are really on spot tonight from him
May 6, 2025 at 7:52 pm #281367Two good young pitchers going tonight.
May 6, 2025 at 7:53 pm #281368
jj-cf-stlParticipantBottom of the order and Libby filled up the zone. 67 pitches after five.
