Other than these 5 who else doesn’t fit in with the transition?

People on expiring deals (Matz, Fedde, Helsley). Specifically, you trade people who are not going to be here for the rebound for prospects who will.

Gray, Contreras, Arenado, and Mikolas all have NTC’s thus hard to trade.

Matz has very little value thus hard to trade.

Helsley and Fedde do have some value and probably should have been traded already but the Cardinals tried to thread the needle by winning and rebuilding at the same time. That rarely works and this instance is no different.

As for last night I don’t ever recall a game ending that way. A check swing dribbler by your cleanup hitter that goes less than a foot in front of homeplate? Good grief.
