6:15 p.m.
RHP Erick Fedde (1-2, 3.43) vs. RHP Spencer Schwellenbach (1-1, 2.55)
FanDuel // KMOXApril 20, 2025 at 4:38 pm #279989Leave Hotlanta 5 or 7 games under and the season could quickly get away from the team.
Win the series and maybe start to claw back to level.
April 20, 2025 at 5:33 pm #279996No question it’s at a tipping point. The ship is listing and could easily capsize while down in Dixie.
April 20, 2025 at 5:45 pm #279999If the Cardinals are 23-35 around Memorial Day will Marmol finally be let go?
April 20, 2025 at 6:03 pm #280000After a disastrous 0-7 start to the season in which they lost 9 of their first 11 games, the Braves are now 8-13 after winning their 3rd game in row over the Twins. They will undoubtedly be amped up and ready to continue to do their best to dig themselves out at the expense of the Cardinals. I don’t know how it could get any worse than what happened in Queens, but the Redbirds had better be aware of the possibility of walking into a proverbial ambush.
April 20, 2025 at 6:11 pm #280001If the gate is less than 15K at home against the DBacks on the Sunday before Memorial Day, I’d say there’s a decent chance he’ll be in the soup line prior to the team boarding a flight to Baltimore to play an afternoon game on Memorial Day Monday.
April 20, 2025 at 6:25 pm #280002And by all indications thus far, 23-35 on Memorial Day could very well be a best case scenario. This team’s 1-9 on the road, 0-4 in extras and 0-4 in 1 run games…And we’re just getting started for goodness sake.
April 20, 2025 at 8:41 pm #280006May 10th. I think our skipper will be the first managing casualty of 2025 by this date unless things vastly improve. We’re not the Chicago White Sox. Changes must be made.
April 20, 2025 at 9:10 pm #280008While glancing at the standings I happened to notice that although the White Sox are in last place in the ALC at 5-16, the Rockies are leaking oil profusely and look as though their gearbox has entirely scattered with a woeful 3-17 record which translates into a .150 W/L pct. That’s beyond painful. I’ve always liked the state of Colorado.
April 21, 2025 at 7:14 am #280009Pugs: I don’t know about your May 10 prediction for Marmol. Obviously somebody up there loves him. What’s more, it doesn’t appear that anyone in management is interested in taking steps any time soon to make the Cardinals a better baseball team. On the other hand, what does a guy sitting outside a rural village 4,500 miles away know?
April 21, 2025 at 7:57 am #280013I think Marmol will be let go at some point, but not before the break. Just early enough to advertise the opening before top candidates make other plans or get too far into talks with other orgs.
April 21, 2025 at 8:10 am #280014FWIW, Colorado already fired the hitting coach. I am with those who are guessing the Cardinals will not do anything soon.
I will go further in saying that I think they won’t do anything during the season unless they feel the players have quit on Marmol. This is very difficult to assess from afar.

No. They have publicly stated that this ia transition year, reset year, rebuild year, whatever you want to call it. I doubt they would fire the manager knowing full well that they haven’t given him a competetive roster. Also, why would Mo fire Marmol on his way out the door? That should be for Bloom and BDW to decide after the season.
April 21, 2025 at 10:42 am #280043hey have publicly stated that this ia transition year, reset year, rebuild year, whatever you want to call it.
And yet, they held on to tradeable assets to try to compete.
That should be for Bloom and BDW to decide after the season.
Bloom should be managing all trades and in-season staffing decisions starting in about June. Cardinals are already 4 games back in the division, I would guess the reins will be turned over if the Cardinals get to 10 games back.
April 21, 2025 at 1:31 pm #280049I know it’s the Twins, lol, but the Braves appear to be back to their winning ways. That doesn’t mean we can’t beat them, but I doubt there will be any margin for error, pun intended.
April 21, 2025 at 1:51 pm #280050And yet, they held on to tradeable assets to try to compete.
They are trying to have it both ways but if they were truly trying to compete they would have added more than Maton.

He probably should be but I’m not holding my breath that he will be.
April 21, 2025 at 2:25 pm #280051Only 10 games back? From mid-Aug. of ’23 the Cardinals fluttered and sputterd anywhere from 15 to 20 games off the pace and finished up 21 games behind the NLC champion Brewers. In my view, this season’s edition is far weaker those we were presented with in either ’23 or ’24, and a baseball gypsy told me it was going to get exponentially worse this season. Right now, it’s looking as though 10 to 12 games off the pace before it’s time for flowers on Mother’s Day is an entirely realistic forecast, and they could very well reside somewhere in the Mariana Trench by late July. But hey, I remain optimistic…Haha!
April 21, 2025 at 2:35 pm #280052On or before May 10th.
April 21, 2025 at 2:37 pm #2800531TD – I did not say they will only finish 10 games back, but I think once they reach 10 games back, changes will come.
April 21, 2025 at 3:04 pm #280054I hope you’re right, LA. And 10 games back clearly constitutes that changes are in order. However, I don’t think the bosses will undertake any sort of significant action until the gate begins to really suffer. Just as soon as the boos of only 12,000 to 15,000 loud and raucous fans can be clearly heard by Johnny up in his skybox and by Billy Jr. all the way to his distant estate in suburban Cincinnati, it’ll be bye-bye whiz-kid…Haha!
April 21, 2025 at 3:11 pm #280055Yeah, it’s still only April, but 23 games is more than an 8th of a season. If you think about it for a second or two, that’s a substantial chunck. Every one of these games count for the same until the simple arithmetic says that they don’t. When that happens, it’s wait ’til next year.

Good take LA.April 21, 2025 at 4:51 pm #280057
jj-cf-stlParticipant4 under on a bad streak needs our bats to carry the day. Looks like a win with our lefty bats doing the damage tonight.
April 21, 2025 at 6:23 pm #280058A list of 3 slot hitters around the league…
Freeman…Dodgers
Harper…Phillies
Alonso…Mets
Machado…Padres
Trout…Angels
Alverez…Astros
Bregman…Red SoxI like Donovan, but we ain’t winning many games if he’s the best hitter we’ve got to fill the 3 slot.
April 21, 2025 at 6:26 pm #280059Did anyone else see that the Reds pushed across 24 runs against the Orioles yesterday afternoon? That’s beyond abusive.
