oof – that was a tough way to lose.
I guess we are used to it by now though.
April 18, 2025 at 9:32 pm #279836You never like to grow accustomed to losing close games but when you’re 0-4 in extras and 0-4 in one run games…well, you’re accustomed to losing close games.
April 18, 2025 at 9:39 pm #279837I don’t mean to lay it on too thick, but I can’t help it…The Dodgers have position players named Ohtani, Betts, and Freeman. Right now their team MVP is named Edman. Unbelievable…

And we don’t have a CF now or on the horizon, or a replacement if Winn goes down long term. The players we have are doing their best, but they can’t play their way around the organization they work for. And Contreras’s bat going cold is making the FO look even stupider. Guys slump at the plate, but that is a factor in signing a bat first player to an up the middle position where the defensive aspects are paramount. Now they have to sell it as an $80M 1B/DH and he’s swatting flies, and I saw where he is criticizing the customers. And we gave up two more SBs last night, with the better arm guy back there. The optics are terrible. The news is no better from the minors, with the top end of the pitching pipeline mostly on the shelf. Again. It is hard to accept that BDW is content to just ride this out. But he rode it all the way down, presumably lining his pockets the whole way, so I guess he can ride it out too. It is just so sad.
April 19, 2025 at 8:57 am #279844I wonder if we could persuade the Dodgers to take Fedde back and let us reacquire Edman? And what the hell, maybe we could even toss Gorman in on the deal.

jj-cf-stlParticipantEdman was the super utility before Donny took over. Enjoy Donny while he’s still here.
April 19, 2025 at 9:07 am #279846This will be a ‘see what we have’ season and could even result in a WC2 or WC3 spot. Of course it could also end up as a 4th place divisional finish and out of the playoffs for the 6th time in 10 years too.
Out in ’16, ’17, ’18, ’23, and ’24
In in ’19, ’20, ’21, and ’22’25 tbd
I think we will either just squeak in or just miss out.
Some housekeeping and acquisitions over the winter and come back in 2026 with a much more solid roster from top to bottom and compete for the division.

The Dodgers never had Fedde. It was a 3-team trade.

That is just what Mo was doing the last 5 or more years. Put together something around the meager output of the PD system. The fact that it doesn’t work for a mid-budget team is why we are supposedly doing a reset. It takes a while to rebuild the system and reestablish a productive pipeline. This winter we will hear about how they never said it was a one year project and we need to be patient.
April 19, 2025 at 1:11 pm #279860We didn’t get into this mess in one year and we are not going to get out of it in one year.
