Nice start for Libby today. It would be nice to see him be confident enough to make this sort of start be more normal. At this point, anything high 3s for an ERA as a starter would be good to me.
I strongly suspected the Cardinals would be overmatched this weekend, but they handily beat a first rate team today to win this 3 game series. Maybe they’ll continue to surprise me and remain competitive and in the mix. It would be nice to look like they have a chance after June or July. We’ll see what happens.
Now that was an enjoyable evening of baseball. Let’s hope a few more are coming our way in the next few days.

What was for din-din tonight, Cardinal in France? * With Cardinal in France residing in the south of France, din-din for him was about 6 hours ago I would imagine.
Man, I didn’t even look at the box, but those Cubbies really handed the Dodgers a genuine kick in the backside yesterday at Dodger Stadium. I’ll most likely take a look at tonight’s ESPN broadcast of the Dodgers/Cubs game. Little Eddie may tater-up another 2 or 3 times to overtake Judge for the Big League HR lead…Haha!
Pugs: Din din ce soir was a very simple veal roast with baked potatoes, grilled tomatoes and a green salad, finished off with the last slices of banana cake left from my granddaughter’s birthday yesterday.

Yeah. Still, I wouldn’t mind the occasional plate of catfish and hushpuppies if I could find them around here.
Haha…”The Shadow” says they’ll play 10 games in a row without an off day…Three at home vs. the Astros, then four at the Mets, followed by three more at the Braves. The Shadow will know more after those 10 games!
Speaking of “shadows”, does anyone recall the scary afternoon series “Dark Shadows” with Barnabas Collins? I was like 3 years old when it aired, but I remember it like it was yesterday.
Yeah, I never watched it, but I remember it being on in the afternoon, Pugs. I had a friend who had three nice looking older sisters that would always be watching that show during the afternoon after school had let out. His three older sisters watched the Dark Shadows show, and I watched his three older sisters…Haha!
Smart to be around those 3 lovelies when they’re scared out of their wits. I bet TD was the first person they ran to while frightened. How about Phil Louis Maton? I must admit to not having been overly enthused upon hearing of his signing. But he’s making me forget all about Kitty, which I once thought would have been near impossible. As a quick aside, I wonder if Maton is the first St. “Louis” Cardinal in it’s storied and lengthy history, with the middle name “Louis”?
Nice series win. We keeping out-hitting teams, and today we managed to our-score them. Put up two shutouts in the three games.
Speaking of old shows – and by the way in my neighborhood a couple of teenage girls down the street were big “Dark Shadows” fans as well. But this morning while having my fruit and cereal I watched an episode of “Ironside” on the Pluto streaming channel. For those who don’t know, “Ironside” is a San Francisco police detective played by Raymond Burr. This episode is about a baseball player for the Giants who is being blackmailed for $100K. In the episode they show some scenes of an actual Cardinals-Giants game at Candlestick. There are two scenes where you can clearly see Orlando Cepeda batting (as a Cardinal), and he fouls out down the left field line; and Mike Shannon batting. Pretty cool.
“Ironside”, BicycleMike? That’s sweet music to Rat’s ears. I would love to see that episode with Cha-Cha and Shannon footage. Any idea what year and episode of Ironside that was, BicycleMike? I know it may come across as a bit chic-flickish, but I recently started watching the complete series(14 of them) of Knots Landing……and if you can get by a very mediocre Season 1, it’s fantastic! Kind of neat seeing future stars like Helen Hunt as a teenager and Alec Baldwin in his early 20’s for about 2 seasons, just to name a couple.
That “Ironside” episode was either 1967 or ‘68, Pugs. Cepeda was wearing #30, so it had to be one of those years. He wore #28 for us in 1966, so it was either ‘67 or ‘68.
Man, my ex and I watched “Knots Landing” every week back in the ‘80s. We lived in Boulder then and I was going to CU. Joan Van Ark had a house in Boulder and lived there part-time back then.
A few months ago my current wife (and permanent as we are in it for the duration – 24 years and counting) told me she started watching it. But she only watched a few episodes.
Thanks for the info, Mike. I strongly suggest you revisit Knots Landing again. Like I stated earlier, the first season is mediocre. But then it starts getting better…..and better….and better. 14 seasons. I read an article recently stating that the ratings have been fantastic for these old Knots reruns.
