Strikes out the side! That Ollie really knows how to pull the right strings! 😁

Better than a zero, he strikes out the side. Makes you wonder why we haven’t used him sooner?

Gorman’s swing looks a little off. He’s using his arms and not so much the wrists. Not sure if he always swings that way, but seems like when he is on the bat stays back more and the wrists are turned over.

Holky cow, Burly pinch hitting for Walker. And a pinch runner. Who is that guy in the Marmol mask?

Burleson simply not pouncing on his chances to make some sort of an impact.

Burleson chases that low and outside pitch too often.

I like Victor Scott’s approach at the plate. Has good instincts, and a bit of flare on defense. He is going to be a good one. Did not do it today but he will have a lot of opportunities and will be the hero many times.

Unfortunately we remain a cellar dweller in what early on has been a pretty good division.

I hope nobody talks about a silver lining. In baseball the team with the most silver linings doesn’t win.

I’m ready to see Noot in the lineup.
3 ER over 8 IP somehow.

The 3-4 west coast trip could have been 5-2.

Yeah, 3 GIDP along with the Goldschmidt K/Donovan CS. Just couldn’t get the key hit.

I liked Scott’s AB in the 9th vs their closer, very competitive.

Gorman hit 3 balls oppo I think. Usually a good sign.

The pen gave us a chance to win.

What do people think about pinch hitting for Walker in the clutch situation? And with a .230 career hitter. It’s not like Albert was waiting in the wings.

I didn’t at all think it was the wrong move to PH for Walker in the 9th, but I was a little surprised that the LH’ed bat wasn’t in the person of Carpenter.

Marmol’s obsession with handedness and L/R match-ups over actual productivity continues. Clearly Walker is struggling, but so is Burleson. Based on what limited data we do have (basically 2023):

    Walker vs RHP: 123 wRC+
    Burleson vs RHP: 83 wRC+

Fernandez was simply an awesome surprise today. Nice pitches and command. But what I liked most. For a Rule 5 guy’s first MLB apperance was. How cool he was on the mound. Today, he excuded confidence for a rookie.

Shady, I agree. Obviously, his stuff and command is very good, and he doesn’t choke. Wish we knew that a few games ago.

Walker hits righties at a career .292 clip. Nobody on the bench could touch that.

Bling mentioned no silver linings, but I actually am more impressed with the showing out in the Wild West than I thought I would be. We played competitive ball and never really got blown out.

But it is a long season. We will see if the starting pitching can remain good.

If Fernandez would have retired the first two batters in the bottom of the 8th would he have plunked the next guy? The Redbirds got hit three times in this one, ya know.

Ollie continues to make stupid bullpen decisions. Got away with it today but having a guy make his major league debut down one run in the 8th inning is not a smart decision. He had all spring to establish a 7th, 8th and 9th inning relievers but goes with a major league debue in the 8th in a tight game.

And I agree. He is platoon obsessed. Why take Winn out of the lineup when he has been going good. If he wanted to get Crawford in the lineup there is always the DH spot. And if Walker is the regular why pinch hit for him. His record last year should have earned him a solid regular status.

These kind of moves has to be a disrupting factor in the clubhouse.

Also it appears to me that we are hitting an abnormal number of popups. Wonder if they are still following the Albert strategy of pull and loft. Mo was so enamored with that approach that he fired a successful manager because of the conflict over that. And a relatively inexerienced hitting coach would not dare disagree with Mo.
