Also Bally Sports South/Southwest ExtraApril 3, 2024 at 11:31 am #246310I should be home in time for the first pitch. Me and Whitey Herdog will be on the couch for this one. Along with a couple of 7×50 Palma Real Presidente cigars.
Question – when Nootbaar comes back is Scott going to be sent down?
And din-din today is the weekly trip to the Gasthof, the Amish restaurant. Roast beef, fish, fried chicken, mashed potatoes/gravy, green beans, noodles, dressing, and some sweet iced tea. Along with some cherry stuff for dessert and some vanilla soft serve ice cream.
All of this after I stop and get a new battery for my Honda Rancher 4x4ES 4-wheeler.

April 3, 2024 at 11:55 am #246312Question – when Nootbaar comes back is Scott going to be sent down?
That is certainly a possibility. Having Noot play CF isn’t ideal but he could do it for a little while. Or they could keep Scott in CF and have Noot and Walker in the corners. It will be an interesting decision.
April 3, 2024 at 12:11 pm #246314I was pondering this same question this morning. We have 3 options.
1. Send Scott back to AAA. Get him an opportunity to really improve as a hitter. On the downside, we’re out our best defensive center fielder.
2. Send Siani back to AAA. There aren’t many positives with this one. Siani isn’t likely to improve a whole lot as a hitter. But Noot could cover CF in a pinch if something happens mid-game to Scott. On the downside, it pretty much forces Scott to play every day and takes away the late game PR and defense replacement that Siani gives us.
3. Send Burleson back to AAA. Burleson has already mastered AAA and has nothing more to prove there. However, with Noot back, Alec is probably our worst defensive outfielder and is already redundant to Carp. We’d lose a potential late game lefty pinch hitter, but we already have that with Carp and Burleson isn’t really going to pinch hit and then go play the field – at least not ideally.
I think option 3 is best. It won’t be well-understood by the common fan because Burleson is seen as a better player than Siani and not a rookie like Scott. But until Carlson or Edman returns, I’d prefer to keep 2 guys who are actually center fielders.
April 3, 2024 at 12:26 pm #246317Scott has done nothing to play himself out of the lineup or off the roster.
April 3, 2024 at 12:37 pm #246318I suspect it will get down to how comfortable the Cardinals would be with Noot in CF. He is coming off an injury caused in the field. Also, he played left in his first rehab game and will be DH in the second. Unless he gets some CF prep time first, I would call it doubtful.
I try to anticipate what I think the Cards will do. If they do play Noot in CF, Scott is likely going down. Stepping back, Scott was the emergency late add. His offense to date suggests he is not ready, which is no negative on him. Wherever he is, he is going to play daily.
If Noot plays left, I think it will be Siani to go. Either way, I am guessing Burly stays. When push comes to shove, I think they value Burly’s bat more than Siani’s glove. FWIW, none of the three candidates have even reached the Mendoza Line yet.

jj-cf-stlParticipantThe original plan had two CF and two corner OF active. Then three OF go IL, yet we still have, two CF and two corner OF active. When a corner comes back, their trend supports option 3.

Why can’t we just TRADE Burlson?

CF Victor Scott LApril 3, 2024 at 12:49 pm #246323jj, please put some names with that. There are four outfielders on the team so mentioning three only by roles is a little confusing to me. Thanks.
IMO, Carlson and Noot are corners who can also play center. Walker and Burleson (and Donovan) are corners. Scott, Siani and Edman are center fielders. Do you see it differently?
P.S. I will say that with Donovan able to play left, that could make Burly more expendable, perhaps…
April 3, 2024 at 1:07 pm #246324I hope Scott and Siani stay. We have seen that we can score without having to wait for a homer with the right personnel. Unfortunately for Burleson that leaves him out.
April 3, 2024 at 1:09 pm #246325Contreras bats third again. The lineup algo must still be glitching on them.

jj-cf-stlParticipantIf you have any wonk questions, Bling is your guy. He has the wonk room scoop.
April 3, 2024 at 1:31 pm #246327It’ll be nice to take in a game that ends more than a couple of hours before the rooster crows.
April 3, 2024 at 1:37 pm #246328Whoa!…I’d say the return for the proposed trade of Burleson is an avalanche of talent…She’s at least a 5 tool player!
April 3, 2024 at 1:38 pm #246329
jj-cf-stlParticipantLF Noot = Burly
CF Edman = Scott
CF Carlson = SianiPass on Noot playing CF, for a good while. If Mo feels the same, Scott and Siani should avoid demotion.
Mo carries a backup SS and CF as roles on the active roster, and I hope we still do once players start returning.
April 3, 2024 at 1:47 pm #246330I’m surprised that BW thinks of Edman as a CF’er. If Edman’s a CF’er, #8 pictured earlier in this thread is Mother Teresa…Haha!
April 3, 2024 at 1:49 pm #246331This roster carries roughly 19 or 20 OF’ers….
April 3, 2024 at 2:07 pm #246332The headline of a article in the local StL. newspaper…”Busch Stadium debuts slinger dogs, waffle cone nachos and fanny packs this season.” Where do they get these guys?
April 3, 2024 at 2:26 pm #246333
jj-cf-stlParticipantHerrera has been driving the ball. Good to see him start. He hit a ball to CF vs Dodgers in the rain, really hammered it, but nothing carried that night.
April 3, 2024 at 2:49 pm #246334There’s a decent chance that he’ll collect somewhere near 250 PA’s this season, so obviously it’ll be nice if he can contribute at the plate.
April 3, 2024 at 3:18 pm #246335Scott was the emergency late add. His offense to date suggests he is not ready,
His OPS exceeds Arenado and Burleson. We could argue that Arenado’s and Burleson’s sample size is not large enough for their batting stats to be meaningful, but Scott’s sample size is similar, so we can’t really conclude that his offense suggests anything, including that he is not ready.
It should also be noted that Scott is second to Donovan in runs scored.
April 3, 2024 at 3:22 pm #246336Thompson could use a move to 1B.
April 3, 2024 at 3:29 pm #246337
stlcard25ParticipantThompson is in a jam here. It seems his velocity has not been too good here once the season has started.
April 3, 2024 at 3:32 pm #246338
stlcard25Participant4 pitch walk (1-0 Padres) and working on another…til he gets a couple strikes across to end the inning. He’s had a ton of pitches so it looks like he’ll have a short outing today.
