Knock on wood, but Gibson hadn’t had to exert more than 15 pitches of energy in any of his 5 innings of labor this evening. We Cardinal fans aren’t used to seeing this over the past decade out of our starters.
April 1, 2024 at 10:43 pm #246062Tatis Jr. goes yard with one out here in the 6th, but luckily nobody was on board for the free ride.
April 1, 2024 at 10:43 pm #246063Good point JJ. But I’d still rather see Burly as much as possible before we have to make a decision on shipping him back to Memphis.

jj-cf-stlParticipantI have Walker at leadoff. Forced plate discipline in the strike zone and obp as his path to succeed. His power is natural.
Check out his splits vs rhp’s last season. A strong half season size sample.
April 1, 2024 at 10:45 pm #246065Padres don’t look the same without Soto and Hader. Even as Tatis connects for an upper decker. Good for us.
April 1, 2024 at 10:47 pm #246066That may be it for Gibson but I wouldn’t mind them trying to push him one more. Our relievers need some more relief . . .
April 1, 2024 at 10:47 pm #246067Pads get just the one run…..Gibson, with his 15 pitches in the 6th, now at 79 heaves for the game.
April 1, 2024 at 10:49 pm #246068Oh they better let him go another frame, Jnevel. I think Oli would be immediately terminated if he didn’t trot him back out there in the 7th. Unless we score 2 or more runs in the top of the 7th…..then it would be ok to bring in somebody out of the pen.
April 1, 2024 at 10:50 pm #2460692 on for Donnie. Goldy tells him “You better not blankety my RBIs again Donnie.”
April 1, 2024 at 10:51 pm #246070I’d put Gibson in for the 7th. Only 79 pitches and pitching well. Pull him if two batters reach base.

jj-cf-stlParticipantHa!
April 1, 2024 at 10:53 pm #246072Safe as milk at 1B.
April 1, 2024 at 10:55 pm #246073Goldschmidt, too angry about Donnie erasing Winn at 2nd, forgets to swing to get those RBIs.
April 1, 2024 at 10:57 pm #246074Just now noticed Astros pitcher Blanco with a no-no. That was quick.

jj-cf-stlParticipantQuality start ✅
April 1, 2024 at 11:01 pm #246076Just noticed Astros pitcher Blanco with a no-no.
Yep, looks like Blanco blanked them but good tonight, TD.
April 1, 2024 at 11:03 pm #246077Gibson definitely has lost his command in that at bat and is laboring.
April 1, 2024 at 11:03 pm #246078Pirates, Cubs and Reds all with W’s today. Bucs off to a 5-0 start.
April 1, 2024 at 11:04 pm #246079
jj-cf-stlParticipantOk, team D has been very good these first few games.
April 1, 2024 at 11:04 pm #246080But one pitch and a DP saves the day.
April 1, 2024 at 11:06 pm #246081Gibson induces the inning ending DP to keep the score 6-2 Birds as we head to the 8th. He pitched a dandy tonight, which was just what the doctor ordered.
April 1, 2024 at 11:06 pm #246082Hats off to Gibson. That was a great 7 innings!
April 1, 2024 at 11:06 pm #246083I’d feel a lot better with one more run here before we let Fernandez loose (I assume Fernandez makes his debut anyway).
April 1, 2024 at 11:08 pm #24608412 Cardinal strikeouts tonight. That’s been the only downer.
April 1, 2024 at 11:08 pm #246085I looked him up and Blanco’s a 30 yr. old RHP’er who had less than 60 Big League innings of work before tonight’s turn. Looks like he figured it out today.
