Matt Waldron surrenders a leadoff opposite field base knock to Arenado and that will signal the end to the knuckleballer’s evening.

Looks like Jhony Rafael Brito coming on in out of the SD pen.

Carpenter continues his strategy coming into tonight of not wanting to hit the ball out of the infield. This time it backfires though as now the Padres are onto this salsa-eating lad.

Yeah, he liked to drink a Falstaff or two while watching or listening to the game, Pugs, but what he really liked were White Owl cigars. Mom wouldn’t allow them in the house, so he spent a lot of time in the garage or the patio listening or watching…Haha!

Padre 1st baseman knocking Walker down while he was simply minding his own business on the bag…..that’s all we need is another player hitting the infirmary….especially in that fashion. Brito does his job as he keeps us off the scoreboard.

Victor Scott continues to be overmatched by major league pitching. Not his fault at all though. He wasn’t ready to skip a level. But we needed his D and that he has provided.

Sweet TD…….I’ve indulged in a White Owl or two back in the day too…..we used to smoke them at night in the 8th grade down by the lake(Lake Michigan).

He smoked those White Owls like he was mad at ’em…He finally quit about a year before he said goodbye.

Walker was a little too nonchalant for my liking on that routine fly ball to right. He hasn’t earned the right to be Mr. Cool in the field just yet…..and as I say this Walker makes a dazzling catch on the very next pitch to retire the side……maybe the kid is ready after all.

Walker looking much improved on D. Not good yet. But no longer bad. Or at least no longer terrible.

Winn with a leadoff single here in the 6th and it feels like we have about 20 of them(hits) in this game. Still 4-1 Cards……heck, if no vehement objections exist, let’s stay with the action shall we?

Donovan – Winn swipes 2nd with the greatest of ease. Donovan gets his teeth into one to deep right!….back to the track and out of here! 6-1 Good Guys and this one is starting to transform itself into a bit of a laugher…much to the dismay of Shildt & Co.

Goldy – Walks and that will send Brito to the showers.

If Walker can get to that ball, it helps. It doesn’t matter if a different outfielder would have been there waiting, it’s what can Jordan do for us.

    Have a game Donny!

    Walker flashes the leather.

Old Man Gibson showing us how to pitch

Carp hasnt gotten a ball out of the infield yet – has 2 hits but for me he’s still coffee boy.

I’m pretty sure I saw Lynn with a box of Krispy Cremes off in a corner of the dugouts.

Gorman gotta move down in the order.

If Shildt’s head gets any bigger his neck won’t be able to hold it up.

Might be the best game I’ve seen from Donovan.

Goldschmidt frustrated with Donnie for taking his RBIs away. Goldy says “Ollie moved me up to the 2 spot to get those Scott/Winn RBIs – not for some 1-hole leadoff hitter to steal them.”

Donnie has upped his OPS by nearly 500 points in this game.

Ya J, the sweet spot for RBI is currently batting behind Gorman.

Gorman, happy to see a fastball and not another one of those knucklers from earlier, hits it for a single.

    Kolek the new Padre pitcher.

Gorman – Spanks a base hit into left with Goldy stopping at 2nd.

Wild pitch moves the runners up to 2nd and 3rd and still nooooobody out.

Arenado – Blisters a liner that was ticketed to left field that Profar nicely spears at 3rd base saving 2 runs.

Contreras- Hit by pitch…..looks like the Pads want a review on this one. Tough call here. Pads don’t get it overturned and the bases are bulging with Birds.

Carpenter – Strikes out looking on a high hard one.

Walker – Strikes out swinging at ball 3 wayyy outside.

Carpenter, who had already hit the ball over 50 feet total in his first three at bats decides that’s enough for one game and promptly hits it zero feet this time around.

You can see all these pitchers throwing Walker balls low and away again and again to get him to chase. It makes him look like O’Neill 2.0. Got to cut that crap out.

I wonder if starting Carp is somewhat about him being a Padres last season, and the salary dump trade this winter.

TLR often penciled in bench players so they had the opp to stick it to their previous team.
