Well I was probably the biggest proponent of the Matz signing that has so far been a dud. Hopefully this is the year he totally redeems himself
Din din was the typical Easter fare, but it sure hit the spot…Bone in Ham, oven-baked macaroni and cheese, green beans and dinner rolls with orange marmalade. And oh…the deviled eggs were to die for. I like ’em with a dash of Tabasco.
Taking a gander at the Sunday out-of-town scoreboard:
The Reds were down to their last out in the 9th with the bases empty and behind 5-3. Single by India, homerun by Benson, and a homerun by Encarnacion-Strand and they beat the Nationals 6-5 at Riverfront.
The Cubs scored four late and finally won a game. 9-5 over Texas.
The Pirates swept the Marlins in Miami. 9-7 in 10 innings your final here.
Milwaukee also swept the Mets. 4-1 the final today at Shea Stadium.
Our next opponent, San Diego, leads the Giants 12-2 in the 4th at Jack Murphy Stadium.
Good to hear 1td. We did an early breakfast bar outside and finished with a dozen kites in the sky yesterday morning.
Yankees also swept those oh so powerful Astros in a 4 game series – while this is out of our division I am pretty sick of the Astros so decided to make this post.
Entirely off topic, but still applicable to our favorite game…In 1976 George Brett led the AL with 298 TB’s despite the fact that he hit only 7 HR’s that season. Mike Schmidt led the entire Big Leagues with 306 TB’s, but he tatered up 38 times to lead both leagues in HR’s that season. In any event, Brett had 215 hits and 14 triples that year, so those two categories helped him collect so many bases, but I still thought it was unusual to lead his respective league in TB’s with only 7 HR’s. George could flat out barrel up the baseball.
The one thing I don’t like about the ESPN games is that the announcers are terrible. Pitiful. I just can’t understand why MLB cannot get some good announcers. The bad ones are just everywhere.

I don’t know about in the AL, but those cookie cutter stadiums in the NL back then were good for gap hitters until they all started getting the fence moved in like at Busch so the weenies could hit home runs like the big guys. That and putting in real grass. When Busch had the original fence, 414 to center and 386 in the alleys, together with the artificial turf outfield that would let the ball skip on through, there were hot shot grounders past short or 2nd that could get between the fielders and to the wall. That was exciting baseball, and if a bang bang play happened you knew the outcome right then, not in a few minutes once the umps huddled up.
I was raised in KC even though I am and was a Cardinals fan. Charlie moved the A’s after the 67 season and they broacast the Cardinals games. Anyway when the Royals came to town, I watched them but didn’t embrace them. Point is,I lived a mile from the stadiums and saw a lot of George Brett. He was a marvelous hitter. Best I have seen until AP showed up.
No question that any hit that managed to plug either of the OF gaps could potentially roll for what seemed like forever before reaching the gravel of the track. And there was no such thing as a cheap HR hit at Busch Memorial. A hitter sometimes could really turn on one and that ballpark would still hold the baseball onto the field of play for a long out. Anything that went over the wall in the power alleys had to be entirely destroyed.
Hopefully someone will explain to Oli why the two guys at the dead bottom of our order, should be hitting atop.
Goldy rbi single……and boy was Scott flying home. I would think there’s probably only 3 or 4 other players in baseball whom could have scored on this play. 1-0 Good Guys…..and looking for more.

Matz looking fantastic! Keeps pitching even close to tonight’s performance and he’ll be our Ace. Still very very early in this game, so I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
