Yes, the Astros leadership role came out over a year ago. This is from page 3 of this thread…
BILL MADDEN | Rob Manfred’s plan to destroy minor league baseball
In truth, as always, it’s designed to save money, lots of money, and the proprietors of these minor league teams, many of whom have their life savings invested in them, be damned.https://t.co/Kfah5Oz7eO

Also deMause cited the term “McKinseyizing” baseball. Consulting for the firm is precisely how Luhnow came into contact with DeWitt all those years ago.
December 23, 2020 at 9:53 am #150195Manford is also responsible for this crime. He has hurt the game much more than he has helped it IMO. Another prize-winning son-of-a-biotch.
December 26, 2020 at 5:23 pm #150486This ran 12 days ago, but I forgot to call attention to it at that time. Still relevant and worth reading…

ParticipantWhen do we expect the PDL’s to be signed and final leading to structuring the Minor Leagues and finally schedules?
February 4, 2021 at 6:21 am #153351As I understand it, February 10 is the deadline, but if some of the 120 opt out, how long will it take for MLB to get replacement teams signed?

February 15, 2021 at 7:50 pm #154404Rob Manfred has succeeded in making himself Pope of baseball.
March 11, 2021 at 7:30 pm #155517Some changes coming to the rules in MiLB this year. Different levels will have different experimental rules. Among them will be the requirement at AA for all infielders to be on the dirt, with the possibility in the second half that shifts will be entirely banned.

ParticipantI have no problem with infielders having to be on dirt with no extra outfielders. I don’t like the ideal of no shifts. I get tired of mlb trying to manufacture great hitters instead of creating them.
April 14, 2021 at 10:30 am #158112The Atlantic League and MLB announced that the pitching rubber will be moved back a foot this year during their season while also implementing a "double-hook' rule in which a team will lose its DH for the remainder of the game once the starting pitcher comes out of the game.

ParticipantI don’t like either of those. Lengthening how far pitchers throw would only cause more injuries, the other just seems stupid.
June 1, 2021 at 7:00 pm #163004Wasn’t one of the reasons about contraction of MiLB teams that players would be better compensated and treated better?
Players in the Oakland A’s organization shared these photos of their recent post-game meals.
No employer would serve these meals to employees they care about. Why are the A’s serving them to their future Major Leaguers? pic.twitter.com/cIFqiPg6iX

July 19, 2021 at 3:40 pm #166915Good to see the conditions have improved with the cost savings this year.

ParticipantThat is really stupid. MLB should be so proud of itself. Though to be fair, I’m sure back in the day it wasn’t as nice as that.
July 19, 2021 at 7:07 pm #166945That is truly pathetic.
July 19, 2021 at 8:28 pm #166966An explanation.
Upon arrival to the hotel it was made known that they had no rooms blocked for us. Whether it was a miss communication between the Home club and hotel is beyond me. More importantly we all received rooms by 9 AM from my knowledge and slept in

July 20, 2021 at 9:08 am #167071Funny, I always receive email confirmations when I book a hotel room, whether I do so personally or through a corporate travel department, and whether I do so through the hotel directly or through a travel site.
July 24, 2021 at 8:41 am #167569July 24, 2021 at 9:42 am #167572Back off the Angels. Have to cover bad contracts somehow.
July 24, 2021 at 3:45 pm #167607This is shocking. Sounds even sadistic in a way. If I’m a parent with a twenty-something boy living under these conditions, I’m livid about it, and I want it fixed. Moreno must be a sicko.
August 5, 2021 at 7:53 am #168904The swell of rental costs in midsize U.S. cities has brought a longtime minor-league issue to the surface: affordable housing.
Many players are chasing their dreams while living in squalor.

August 30, 2021 at 9:29 am #171211One rule change idea is not being well accepted. (Also, I encourage you to read the author’s other article on brain drain in MLB. Very, very interesting and something I have seen.
When you get excited about the possibility of big free agent signings this coming winter, temper them against the economic background explained in the article.
