So Blake is on the board saying the pick will be Montgomery. I really hope that Wetherholt or Burns or Smith make it to 7, instead.

We both suspect that the three you mention will likely be gone by #7. Of course, we base that on rumors. There is no certainty.

Interesting comments on the draft class. Brian with the blingboy skepticism on Hence places Wetherholt #1, while Blake believes in Hence more.

I spent a little more time reading on the 7th rounder Dutkanych after Blake said he was the #3 guy in the class for him. Sounds like he was a very highly touted guy out of HS (#15 prospect in his HS class) who just couldn’t stay healthy. A big risk, but of course a big payoff if it works. I recall another guy out of Vandy who we thought could be a steal some time ago, Kilochowski. I fell for it too and ranked him in my personal prospects but the injuries were too much to overcome. Hopefully Dutkanych works out better but the odds aren’t great.

Look for Rotundo to pick up his power numbers at Hammond’s field!

    Brian (and Blake) –

Thank you again very much for another interesting podcast. Nice to reconfirm how loaded we are at catcher.

I wonder if you could spend some time in a future podcast covering the pitchers we got last July – Roby, Rom, Robberse, Kloffenstein, and Showalter. Seems like they have all had IL issues. I was impressed with that group when they came in.

Coincidentally, just yesterday, I posted a detailed article on the site about these upper level pitchers and how things have not progressed as planned this season. I will also put it on the potential topic list for a future podcast, but it will depend on what else needs to be covered.

Thank you for listening and commenting.

Thanks very much, Brian. We see position players coming onto the major league roster, and some do well, like Edman, Donovan, Winn, etc. But it seems like pitchers have a hard time making that last step. For instance, Thompson, McGreevy, Graceffo, Kloffenstein, Rom, etc.

With the price of front line starters today, we may not be able to compete at the highest levels going forward if one or two of our guys don’t develop like Alcantara and Gallen did. Maybe Hence or Matthews have a chance? It might be interesting to hear Blake’s take on minor league pitcher development (or lack thereof) on a future podcast.
    Again, thanks very much.

On Koperniak, the idea is that his contact rate is solid but not spectacular, yet he’s hit over .300 every year at least at one level except for his .288 average in 2021 at Springfield. What gives? Is he just a BABIP monster?

The only two stops at which he had a lower BABIP than .331 are the only two times he had a sub-100 wRC+. That was Springfield 2021 and Memphis in 2023. His BABIP with Memphis this season is .354.

I am becoming more convinced, so I moved Koperniak up to no. 30 on my August list.

I haven’t listened yet but I’m looking forward to it!

One thing I’m thinking about is how fun it was previously when the minors stars would come up for their month long cup of tea and it felt nice to have a full roster. I wish the greed of owners to save .2% of budget didn’t end that practice.

On the question of running over time-wise on the podcast, I’m fine with it. I like listening to you guys talk about guys in the system.

Did i understand correctly that Brian and Blake think Crooks would have been called up instead of Herrera if he hadn’t been hurt?

Crooks would have been promoted to AAA to backfill Herrera if he hadn’t been hurt.

I just finished listening. Well done, men. I am happy with the longer episodes, especially during the season. I am sure there may be less to talk about at certain times, but especially during this time of year when the playoff chase is gearing up on the farm and call ups are happening there seems to be plenty to stretch the podcast out.

Thank you all for your feedback. I am sensitive to not wasting listeners’/watchers’ time, as I have suffered through too many 90 minute pods where the participants talk about their favorite bands or whiskey or Star Wars characters while expressing their undying love for themselves. 20 minutes of content and 70 minutes of fluff. None of that BS here!
