I would think a team would want a veteran coaching coaching staff with a young field manager.
The Cardinals seem to be going in the opposite direction.
December 11, 2023 at 9:44 pm #239645March 1, 2024 at 9:47 am #243277Maybe not fair, but it comes across as “I’ll come when I’m ready and do what I want.”
#STLCards manager Oli Marmol said advisor and franchise icon Yadier Molina will join the organization “later in the month.” Marmol is uncertain whether Molina will be around the big league club or not initially.

March 2, 2024 at 3:21 pm #243298Yadi kind of rubbed me the wrong way last season, and it has continued right up until now.
May 9, 2024 at 2:12 pm #251410Oh boy! The watch for Molina to ride in on his white steed and save the day has begun…

ParticipantIt’s always comforting to believe the critical problem(s) are those things that can easily (and quickly) be changed. Such was the case with the diagnosis of “leadership” as a crucial shortcoming. Unfortunately, the actual problems exist independently of the preferred diagnoses.
December 5, 2024 at 4:35 pm #272760Molina is in the news again, sort of.
Bengie Molina said on 101 ESPN that Yadi wants to manage the Cardinals and Yadi has “offers” from other MLB teams to manage. Bengie also said that if his brother managed the Cardinals, imagine if Albert Pujols signed on as hitting coach, and Adam Wainwright was pitching coach. Bengie noted that Yadier prefers to wait a couple of years until his son graduates from (high) school.
December 5, 2024 at 6:46 pm #272766There is always something he wants to do first.
January 21, 2026 at 3:36 pm #299619How many of us wondered if Yadi was not already a Special Assistant? Or as Kyle said, it is a lot like McDonalds “bringing back” the McRib.
Then again, this has to be more than last year, when Molina came back twice all season. For sure, the second time he had to be there already, but that didn’t stop folks from making an overly big deal out of it.
Yadi is back!
We are excited to welcome back Yadier Molina as Special Assistant to the President of Baseball Operations! pic.twitter.com/BqK70L6a1O

January 21, 2026 at 5:13 pm #299626Ollie Marmol might want to be looking over his shoulder.
January 21, 2026 at 5:25 pm #299627Yea I posted this 2 minutes before Brian in the Cardinals in the news thread. Guess I forgot about this one buried since Dec 5. So sorry
January 21, 2026 at 7:05 pm #299628Maybe he will get Girsch’s old office.
