Playoff game Fri 9/14
Memphis vs. Fresno: Chris Ellis
Peoria at Bowling Green: offSeptember 14, 2018 at 9:37 am #6931414NyquisT
ParticipantKeeping Bowling Green off of the scoreboard for six plus innings was no small feat. Prendergast (GS=81) has won 2 play-off games and has catapulted his stock as a starter in the organization and will be headed to Palm Beach in ’19. Jake Dahlberg has been impressive also and will no doubt land at PB also.
September 14, 2018 at 8:58 pm #69348Memphis is tied 1-1 in the 6th with Fresno
September 15, 2018 at 12:36 am #69360Memphis won 2-1.
September 15, 2018 at 8:39 am #69380Game 3 of the PCL Championship Series won by Memphis over Fresno in 11 innings Friday. The Redbirds are up 2-1. Our Player of the Day is Redbirds DH Alex Mejia, who went 3-for-5 with a double and drove in the winning run on a walk-off bunt single. https://t.co/L4cYG3DiNg pic.twitter.com/eQAvgNfwLZ

Memphis vs. Fresno (Game 4): Jake Woodford
Peoria at Bowling Green (Game 3): Jake DahlbergSeptember 15, 2018 at 9:13 am #6939014NyquisT
ParticipantCongrats to Mejia…. great game. Edman was the catalyst in this game and its starting to become a habit with him. If Edman was Perez… he’d be ranked ahead of Reyes.
September 15, 2018 at 10:21 am #69394I’m as giddy as a schoolgirl….well not that giddy…..in anticipation of the Chiefs-Hot Rods game in the great State of Kentucky. Truly great players seem to rise to the occasion when all the marbles are on the line. Yes he’s really not all the far removed from waving a rattle all about, but now he’s got a bat in his hands and I think the kid will put proper use to it in Bowling Green.
September 15, 2018 at 2:58 pm #69404High praise for Edman Nyquis! Not sure I agree because with Perez you are betting on an upside that Edman probably doesn’t have. But I agree, he has been under rated and overlooked.
September 15, 2018 at 9:19 pm #69424They’re in the bottom of the 7th at Bowling Green Ballpark and things are not looking good for our Chiefs. The Hot Rods are presently in the driver’s seat after racing out to an early lead with four 2nd inning tallies. It’s now 6-1 and Gorman has whiffed in all 3 of his plate appearances…..and for good measure he has a throwing error to boot. Oh what a miserable day this has been for we Cardinal fans!

Peoria at Bowling Green Game 4: Angel Rondon
(BG is up 2-1)September 16, 2018 at 8:37 am #6944214NyquisT
ParticipantThe Memphis Redbirds continued to impress even while a lot of their opening day players were playing in St Louis yesterday.(no comment on that game) This is no small feat considering the player turnover. Only 9 players remain from the opening day roster.
Woodford must have been saving this performance (GS=82)…. his best all season. Arozarena’s 2 HRs and 5 RBIs provided all the offense Memphis needed to oust the Fresno Grizzlies and claim the PCL Champ banner.
This means a repeat of last year’s AAA Championship game vs. Durham (NC).(weather and playing conditions permitting)… you know Florence. They’ll have many starter options but my guess it will be Herget going to the mound.
Meanwhile, the Peoria Chiefs have fallen behind two games to one in the MWL’s finals. Jake Dahlberg was not sharp in the pivotal third game and Rondon will be pitching the critical “win or go home” game this evening.

September 16, 2018 at 12:09 pm #69458Can’t believe that Memphis won the championship from an absolutely stacked Fresno team and held their vaunted offense largely in check. Other than some timely hitting the underrated Memphis defense came through as well. Tommy Edman was key but the team is solid defensively across the board. I have to really begin to take Tommy serious.
Woodford seems to have grown up at Memphis much like Lance Lynn did in earlier years. Kudos to the young man for stepping up after being promoted prematurly to the AAA level. He looked like a much different pitcher than he did in his early outings after being promoted.
Gallegos may be a real steal in the Voit trade. Possibly better than Shreve in the long run.
And Mejia who had the bat knocked out of his hands at the major league level batted cleanup and got clutch hit after clutch hit throughout the playoffs. And Randy A finally showed his offensive powress at the AAA level.
September 16, 2018 at 1:26 pm #69461Ny,
Pretty sure I read the Triple-A championship game is being played in Columbus, OHSeptember 16, 2018 at 1:41 pm #69462I would have thought after seeing who Memphis’ 2 opponents in the playoffs, I would have thought they would have lost either round. But this team had a never say die attitude. They rallied twice against Oklahoma City after OC broke ties in consecutive games. Edman and Arozarena surely improved their standing. These 2 series had a lot of thrilling moments, including 3 walk off wins, Arozarenas infield triple. And outside of Gallegos’s late inning stumbles, the rest of the pitchers fared very well. Woodfords clutch pitching also helped seal the championship.
That being said, a lot of the key contributors, like Tovar and Mejia will likely move on in 2019, as the cardinals simply don’t have the roster space to keep them.
September 16, 2018 at 1:43 pm #69463Tommy Lane had a very good series. I hope they find a way to add him to the big club.
September 16, 2018 at 2:20 pm #69465Reminds me of Trader Lane. For all of you young posters, google Frank “Trader” Lane. Other than the fact that he traded Red and Enos and tried like heck to deal Stan The Man, you can’t help but love the guy. He even traded his own manager one year. The Man would have been one heck of a stockbroker……he would have made Gordon Gekko look lame.

ParticipantUConn…. thanks, the game is in Columbus, and the Bulls will be the host team. That’s good news because Ohio should be mostly dry. GO REDBIRDS… I believe the game will be on MLB or ESPN because I watched it last year.
September 16, 2018 at 2:36 pm #69467AAA championship game is on Tuesday on NBCSN. Not sure of time.
September 16, 2018 at 7:27 pm #69488Peoria is already down 6-0 in the second inning in their elimination game.
The Triple-A Championship Game will be on NBCSN starting at 6 pm CT Tuesday evening.
September 17, 2018 at 10:16 am #69537September 17, 2018 at 6:04 pm #69559Starting pitchers in Triple-A National Championship Game tomorrow (Tuesday) night, 6:00 pm CT on NBCSN. Memphis Redbirds
RHP Kevin Herget (1-0, 4.41 ERA) vs. Durham Bulls RHP Chih-Wei Hu (2-0, 1.50 ERA). Same teams played in 2017 with the Rays affiliate winning.— Brian Walton (@B_Walton) September 17, 2018
September 17, 2018 at 6:08 pm #69560Rays won because Stubby failed to remove Josh Zeid after he had loaded the bases. That game pissed me off for a long time after because I didn’t understand the slow hook. I still don’t understand the rationale or reasoning in letting Zeid load the bases and then give up the grand slam to Keon Wong (Kolten’s brother).
September 17, 2018 at 6:10 pm #69561Time for a bit of payback. If we had not brought up half of the squad, that Bulls team would have been totally obliterated in this series. As it is, I still think we can beat Chil-Wei-Hue & Company.
