On the surface this is going to sound ridiculous, but there’s almost too many blue chip talents in the Cardinals system. Unless a few are dealt, we are soon going to have a logjam that would make Paul Bunyan raise an eyebrow……maybe two. Here’s the issue. After dealing away so many young players who went on to ML stardom (Alcantara, Aroz, Garcia and Voit to name a few), I think Mo is too gun-shy to pull the trigger on dealing any of these young talented players away. Thus, many are going to be blocked and have nowhere to go other that Memphis. You watch…..by 2024 the Memphis Redbirds are going to be fielding an almost unbeatable team. Mo may eventually need some sort of intervention that gives him the strength to make a deal or two involving young blue chip players.
Matt Koperniak is having a nice campaign, and seems to be doing even better lately. Since June 1, he’s hitting .326/.415/.534. He’s definitely on the top 50 radar for me this fall… probably even top 30.
Brian, have you managed to get any radar gun mph readings on prospects? Willis numbers would be interesting, given his size.
Pugs, I don’t believe you can too many prospects. I just hope most of them turn out as good as we hope they will.
I seriously disagree with Pugs. Our system is top heavy and most of the best prospects will graduate in the next 1-3 years. Not much behind them.
Yes, C27, I have taken gun readings on all of the FCL and PB pitchers I’ve seen this week. Will probably do a general article when my time here is done. One more day with the FCL is still ahead.
I agree with CC, sort of. The system is top-heavy, but that is the way it has been in recent years, except with more of them now than there had been. I have been saying for a long time that I felt a pronounced gap between the top 10-12 and the rest. Now, the top 20 or so is interesting and more of the top 10-12 are nationally ranked. So, I see progress.
