The Player of the Month right now would have to be Michael Curialle down at Palm Springs. (The 21 y.o. third baseman was drafted in ’22 in the 12th round). He leads the league in AVR- OPS- Hits- 2Bs and has more BBs than Ks.Its early in the season but Curialle has been mighty impressive.
The Beach Birds are an exciting team to follow with Yeager and Fletcher …. Mautz, Rajcic and Hansen. Much improved over last season. They won their opener then lost 4 straight but are presently on a 5-game win streak.

I guess others are watching Curialle also.
He’s old for his level. He actually used to be a well thought of college player who just never really blossomed and got passed up. So we got him with a late round pick. He has an outside chance to one day be a MLB utility infielder I think. He does have fairly good raw skills (hence why he used to be well thought of). So maybe we find a way to unlock that?
It used to be the college kids would get sent out to one of the short season clubs right away and we could find out if they could play by the end of their draft year. You can’t tell anything until they get away from the choreographed routine at the complex. Now it has to wait for the move to Peoria.
There are 4 interesting starters going tonight. Connor Thomas, McGreevy, Hjerpe and Rajcic for PB, who has been very good so far. That will give me some games to follow on the day off. Lets hope Thomas and Hjerpe can get on track.
Correction on what I said above. Curialle isn’t quite as old as I thought. I was thinking he was 22 going on 23. But he’s 21 and will be 22 in June. So he’s not really “old” for his level. Maybe just slightly older than average.
Rajcic so far – 5 innings, 1 hit, no runs, 7 Ks, no walks. Both he and Mautz look great so far. But it is Low A. At this pace, both will probably move up around Memorial Day like we did with McGreevey and Graceffo last year.
He finishes with 6 innings, no runs, no walks, 2 hits, and 7 strikeouts. Only allowed a grounder through the infield and a ground ball single to the catcher.
I like guys who throw it over the plate. The next question is whether Rajcic will be able to get more advanced hitter out. If he’s still on fire when he’s in Peoria, I think I will make the trip up there. Its been a couple years. The last guy I made a point to go see was Gomber. He was a man amongst boys at that level. But a lot of guys look good in A ball.
Peoria rained out. Thomas and McGreevy both made it once through the lineup so far. No major damage.
Thomas and McGreevey both have very good lines tonight as well.
McGreevey is starting the 7th inning now. But he came into it having walked zero and given up one run. 7 hits and 9 strikeouts.
Thomas has pitched his best game thus far. 6 innings, 4 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, 3 strikeouts. And he may still continue into the 7th.
Those two guys are doing exactly what we need, go deep into the game. Its one start, but its a start.
I do have some kind of MiLB streaming service that costs $30 a year so its cheap. My son set it up so I’d have to ask him about it. It doesn’t work for Palm Beach though, unless they are playing up in St. Lucie. Not sure why. Now and then I can’t find a Peoria game, but that is unusual. But to be honest, I don’t usually watch too many games. I usually have the live (more or less) play by play boxes from the MiLB.com site for the games on tabs or over on the side of my screen while I’m watching something else.
Mainly, I just want to see how certain guys I am interested in are doing. DeJong for example. He’s been in Memphis’s lineup almost daily for a while now, carrying a .300 average and usually playing SS rather than DH. He clearly is not still injured, but he is still there. Whenever I watch him he looks pretty terrible in the batters box, but he is hitting .300 like i said. I was kind of expecting him to join the Cards for the road trip.

The online offering is called MLB At-Bat. It is $29.99 for the season. It includes streaming of most minor league games. As noted, Palm Beach does not televise home games.
But if you live out of market and already subscribe to MLB.TV, the minor league games are included. You do not need MLB At-Bat in that case.
