I would have preferred they kept Hudson over Lynn. But management likely talked to Lynn about conditioning and the fact that they will go all out to win in ‘24, and he can be a big contributor. They are hoping to catch lightning in a bottle, with what they figure should be at least one more solid season from Goldschmidt and Arenado, and a younger core that will be better.

Bowtie did backtrack a bit. My thoughts were when he said they needed 3 starters that he didn’t say what type of starters and that if they did get pitching it would be of a shorter term commitment. They want to see what they’ve got with the pitching in the minors withing the next year or so and you don’t do that if you clog up to big club with longer term commitments. Matz is off the books after 25, Lynn could be a one year stop gap. The next pitcher you would think would be of a 2-3 year commitment. Maybe they trade for a starter as well with a year or two left in arbitration as well.

I also threw around an idea that VerHagen could be retained and maybe they try him in a swing role. He was terrible in 22 but tolerable in 23. They do need to get an arm or 2 for the pen. The Japanese guy would be a start in the right direction..

On a real world note- imagine the effects of a sustained tank from this ownership would potentially have on the city of st louis (already an absolute s@ithole).

People are kidding themselves with the “best fans in baseball” line. I have zero faith in our ownership.

The Cardinals are an old school regional draw.

I was going to games before Union Station mall was a thing; watched it peak; and then watched it decline – very sad.

The city definitely needs better leadership (much like the Cardinals) but based on the way local elections work it isn’t going to get it.

The only thing I like about this deal is the Club option in case Lynn does find the fointain of youth.

Can one really make the case that Lynn and Gibson are better bets than Woodward and Gibson?

It Will be intersting tô compare these signings (both price and performance) tô others projected tô be in the same orice range such as Wacha, Maeta and Beiber (trade required). I loke any of those 3 over Lynn but it is too early tô know what the others actually sign for.

I don’t live in st Louis but I visit when I can. It has a lot to do there. The zoo is awesome, the area around the arch is great. Grants farm. I could go on. Sure it has its issues but it’s great overall

Pads- where do you live in the city ~ this false city pride is as shameful as bfib pride- the city is an abject failure

The St. Louis Metropolitan area is a delight for a lot of people who are transferred in here by companies. It’s why so many stay here when they retire.

Bccran- I appreciate anything you have to do for your family. But i work on 4th street. We don’t obey stop lights. This city is a mess. I travel to Kansas city for work- it is objectively a dream. Minneapolis- amazing- even cincy and memphis have their problems but i could go on and on.

There is a deep theory in stl that i will share here for those that dont live here.

The city is tanking in hopes of $$ from the county. The new theory is that the team tanks in hope of revenue from the county.

Im a moderate but this city is run by hardcore leftists who have no plan but to steal tax revenue from the county. It might work but I seriously doubt it. Let the arch be a relic of when common sense ruled but the next stadium will be built in the county.

Besides the hill and other neighborhoods in south city self governed by its neighbors there is nothing remotely positive about our city besides the Cardinals. If they fail- let the city fail. Just my opinion- and millions of others.

I won’t get into any discussion regarding the current state of affairs in the city of St. Louis. However I can assure you that when the current Cardinal venue known as Busch Stadium lll is considered to be no longer serviceable, it’s replacement will most certainly be located well outside of the city limits of St. Louis. And for good reason…To do otherwise would be beyond foolish.

I don’t know, TD? It seems that Busch, the Arch and the rolling Mississippi, are pretty much inseparable.

It seems like attendance and revenue has not suffered due to where the stadium is located, so I can’t see where urban area issues are a relevant topic. Poor results on the field caused a lot of empty seats though, and probably thinned out crowds at Ballpark Village.

I’m not going to respond to the political posts in a Lance Lynn thread, but I will say that a multi-millionaire baseball player does not care about the city and culture.

    Oh for pity’s sake!

I return to the board after months (my husband died tragically Aug 5th & my focus has been on family) only to find the word “…leftists…” in a post and the discussion isn’t about Steve Carlton!!

I swear I must have that Mom Radar thing going off.

    No.Politics.Period.

Ya’ll know better (and thanks for not weighing in, Pads)

And, I was aware enough re the Cardinals’ performance down the stretch this season to be having flashbacks to the 1970’s! Yikes.
