That’s #2…..next…..maybe we can get under 30 for the next.

    Hmph.
    Another 36-year-old durable-but-not-good-anymore starting pitcher.

And the front office stated repeatedly that they were going for two free agents and one trade. That means the Yamamoto pursuit is over on Day One.

With Gibson, Lynn, and Matz as 60% of the rotation, and Marmol/Blake running the pitching staff, I can’t see any way on Earth that the team finishes over .500 — even if they trade for a high upside pitcher like Dylan Cease.

Yesterday was a bad day for Redbird fans, but today is much worse. Worst in my memory, and I’ve got a very long memory.

Another old guy, what the heck. We are acquiring a bunch of backend starters. Yea Mo doing wonders so far.

We aren’t finishing anywhere near 500 with this. In fact 60 wins may be a high projection.

Well that is two low hanging fruit signings by Mo. All this talk about being aggressive in the offseason was obviously a bunch of you know what.

I like this move slightly better than Lynn depending on the price. But as a pair, I hate these moves. I figured we’d get someone like Gibson as a 3rd addition. And if he was the 3rd best starter we acquired, I’d be happy. I just didn’t think it would be 2 old guys with limited upside. Maybe one of them or Matz goes to the pen and we still get 2 more? Or maybe we use the remaining budget on Yamamoto? Otherwise, this isn’t very reassuring.

Maybe they should have kept Hudson.

The Cardinals evidently like trade deadline sell-offs.

I haven’t seen anything as specific as two free agents and one trade. Where did that come from, please, Bob Reed? I must have missed something important. Thanks.

The main attribute that Gibson brings is the ability to eat innings, which is important, but we still have nothing remoteley close to an ace.

Mikolas, Gibson, Lynn, Matz does not scream playoff team to me. The Cardinals had better dust off the dry powder with at least one big acuisition or good luck selling season tickets.

Who is to say Matz won’t be dealt? If Matz were to be part of a Glasnow trade, all could be fine in our world.
Every young, talented starter wants more money and a longer commitment. They cost more resources and block our developing arms. Eventually our success depends on Liberatore, Thompson, Graceffo, and company excelling. Lynn and Gibson both aide in that development by protecting the staff without blocking anyone.

Remember Matz signed a deal loaded up front I believe. I think he has two years at total of 18 million or so which may be tradeable.

Gibson has dealt with a lot of injuries from research. Maybe not extensive but they do have cause n effect regardless. So I’m not sure how many innings he might eat up.

I don’t believe anyone would take on that 18 million for matz.

Matz is still owed $25M. No team in their right mind will take that on.

Gibson pitched 192 innings last year. We will nead a repeat of that.

Matz is far more likely to be good than Manoah in Toronto. or a variety of other injured, questionable arms everyone clamors for at this time of year. Healthy Matz is a solid mid-rotation arm. I am fine with him, but we need a top of the rotation arm.
I had a scout from Houston tell me three years ago that their metrics said five number three starters get you in the playoffs every time compared to a traditional one through five.

Lance Lynn got $11 million coming off a year where he pitched to a 5.73 ERA…

Yeah, but we have three #4’s and a #5
