Is Drew Rom what we saw yesterday? That poor outing seems more consistent with his MLB history. Hope he can coral those good moments moving forward.

The high K rate lights up the computer. I’m OK with him holding a next man up type role since the alternatives are limited. He allows way too much traffic to be successful, but he could find the secret sauce. Who knows. We will see if anything better emerges this year in AAA.

IMHO, I’d rank last July’s pitching additions as follows –

    1.) Roby
    2.) Kloffenstein
    3.) Robberse
    4.) Showalter
    5.) Rom

Rom was Tudor yesterday. 1985 World Series Game 7 Tudor.

What do you like about Showalter? How does his style compare to Roby, Kloffenstein and Robbersee? Rom wasn’t as sharp yesterday as in his previous outing. He did induce quite a few ground balls that could have been at an infielder. That could come in handy as a relief pitcher.

Based on his major league history of inconsistency, his typically flat pitch plane and high WHIP , I really don’t see Drew Rom as ready to take over a starting role as a MLB starter on a contending team. He likely needs more time in the minors to work on his command.

Clearly, he is a big, strong lefty who just needs more seasoning to see if he pans out. A few short, infrequent good outings suggest his upside is just “hope” at this time.

What did you think of his “Tudoresque” “savvy” last night? Where’s all the analysis attributing cosmic significance to *this* spring training game?

Rom certainly didn’t resemble Tudor last night. But I still see some nice potential in Rom. I prefer having Rom to Flaherty, right now. I guess we’ll see.

So it’s cosmically significant and thread-worthy when Rom does well in one spring outing, but irrelevant and barely worth mentioning when he does poorly? Seems rather inconsistent and one-sided.

In the “ok” post. What’s your point? Please elaborate in terms of Cardinals baseball discussion.

Just trying to understand the logic (or lack thereof) and apparent inconsistency of this thread. You’re entitled to your opinions, but you’re not entitled to unquestioned agreement.

Please take a closer look at my comment comparing the last two Rom appearances.

I think that everybody would rather that these new posters clean up their act and stay. But, if they refuse, then they need to pick up their marbles and go home. Nobody here wants to put up with the trolling, or listen to the mindless vitriol.

Or have a new thread started for each idea that pops up. We have plenty of existing threads to cover almost every subject.

Here’s the depth chart from the Cardinals website. I wonder who made it up.

Wow ! Rom and Thompson listed at 5 and 6 on the rotation depth chart. With Matz in the bullpen. I noticed than Rom is just a little over two years younger than Thompson.

I thought that would set you off, Shady.

Like I said, ‘I wonder who made that (depth chart) up.’

    Mercy!

Looks like some the the newbies need a little guidance on taunting/trolling (And I’m being pulled away from my Illini/Nebby semi-final to diaper check. Not good.)

First, what exactly connotes taunting/trolling? As the late Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart said when asked to define obscenity/pornography: “I know it when I see it.”

    RBK –
What did you think of his “Tudoresque” “savvy” last night? Where’s all the analysis attributing cosmic significance to *this* spring training game?

This is taunting. Don’t bother arguing with me (see Potter Stewart quote above). Not allowed. I’m sure you can figure out how to post with civility.
A good rule of thumb for board posts: Post as if you are addressing someone you love and respect. If you wouldn’t snark to your beloved Granny, don’t do it here (and if you would snark to Granny, what’s the matter with you?)

The next post, by Shady, is fine although you could say Rom possibly resembled 2024 Tudor but no one wants that version pitching in the Majors today.

    BOCfan’s “OK” post is OK.

    RBK’s next post –
So it’s cosmically significant and thread-worthy when Rom does well in one spring outing, but irrelevant and barely worth mentioning when he does poorly? Seems rather inconsistent and one-sided.

Borderline taunting/trolling, mainly because it’s quite clear several of our new posters have a history predating their posting here. Please read/re-read my Really Long Work-Of-Art Post on this thread yesterday. Take.Your.Dirty.Laundry.Elsewhere. Not happening here. First Warning.

    Shady’s next post –
Please try a little harder to not be confrontational and personal here. Other posters are entitled to their opinions regarding the Cardinals here without being harassed.

Nope. It goes after the poster i/o addressing a post’s contents civilly. Acceptable alternative:
‘I find your post to be confrontational and personal. I’d appreciate it if you wouldn’t do that.’

Then if the poster keeps it up, bring it to a Moderatpr’s attention privately, if we haven’t already addressed the issue publicly.

I’ll stop there in the optimistic hope ya’ll get the idea.

UConn, why the SuperHero landing on your entrance? You’re a MOD, you don’t need to tell people how precious your time is. You’re trolling by doing that. You don’t need show your importance with a Supreme Court Justice quote, you’re a Mod, that 3 letter word is all that matters or is of importance. Finally, Addressing an interaction on Taunting/confrontation, you led with your own taunting of a group of people. “Newbies”… is taunting and extremely confrontational.

I know I’m out of line here. I apologize for that.

UConn, some of these Cards Talk deadbeats are frustrated they can’t play their games here like they do elsewhere. I’m so proud to have a good forum, minus the harassment, to discuss Cardinals baseball. Please don’t let their childish mind games persist here.

Well, you did get one thing correct in this post…you’re out of line.

Shady – No poster’s childish games will be allowed here.

Well, its nice to see UConn more active on the board. 🙂

Rom is among the many young pitchers right now whose development was interrupted by the lost MiLB season and subsequent reconfiguration. A super good example of that is JoJo Romero. Look at his career progression. Goodness, its a miracle he survived. After the Covid year Rom got to the upper levels but neither dominated nor improved year to year. Organizational need got him to the bigs and he is understandably struggling. He is young and may discover the secret sauce. Who knows. The K rate will get him more time and chances than most. To me he does not stand out other than being in the right place at the right time.

IMHO, Rom is a long way from being major league ready.
