I also don’t want to create the impression that I’m not fully aware that one of, if not the foremost, reasons for the early exit was the lack of any hitting. I genuinely thought the Cardinals had the best line-up in the NL, bar none. Including the Dodgers. It was my guess that SP’ing may be a problem, but was confident that the Redbirds could slug their way around that issue. I was dead wrong on both guesses. However, I’m convinced that the final outcome was a result of none other than an ill-timed visit from a malevolent group of evil baseball gypsies…Haha! Sometimes you gotta laugh to keep from crying.
Well, let’s see. He GIDP with the two line-up cards. His second AB resulted in a weak pop up foul ball out when he went and got Quintana while he was at 75 pitches and working a 2 hit shutout in the 6th. He K’d looking at a pitch right down the middle when he stood there and watched Helsley load the base with a single, two BB’s and a HBP to allow the first run to score. Then he K’d swinging on a pitch in the dirt when he played the IF in almost on the grass after his pitcher was summoned from the BP to induce a tailor made GIDP ball which is precisely what his pitcher did. However, he PH Yepez for Dickerson with 2 outs and a runner aboard in the 7th which resulted in a 2 run tater. Scorecard looks like he’s 1 for 5 with a .200 BA. Coupled with the two losses, that won’t keep him up in the Big Leagues for too awfully long.
Speaking of vehicles, I’ve armoralled one and waxed it, and waxed another today. Thanks for the conversations during my breaks!

😋I do not hold Marmol responsible for the lineup debacle. That was wonk generated upstairs if anything ever was. The Waino and Helsley cluster is harder to dismiss as far as the field management team goes. I imagine a row of coaches on the top step, all with dark glasses and white sticks.
Euro…That may the case. However, if it indeed is, the field manager has to be aware that he’s going to take the hit for the guy who’s telling him which hoops of fire to jump through. I mean, is he a field manager, or simply a “spokesperson”?
1td, I think we’re pretty much in agreement. As for your question, he’s probably something in between, especially if you consider how we traditionally view what a “manager” is. Whatever thing you want to call him, if he wants any longevity at being that thing, it’s best he not demonstrate much in the way of discordant philosophy, haha.

Way to be productive, jj. Speaking of which, I have some cloudy headlights that need a workover. Since hot stove is kind of in neutral, I’ll ask if anybody has been successful using a DIY headlight restoration kit? My old girl has well over a half million miles and never causes any problems, so I owe it to her to get rid of those cataracts.
Euro there are youtube videos showing a method involving wet sanding and spray on clear coat. I did it a while back and they are still clear.
Yep, thanks bling. Looked at a couple. Thinking about buying one of the kits on Amazon that’s got good reviews and give it a shot. They passed inspection back in September, but not sure they should have.
Euro…If you’re asking about those kits for a poly-carbon resin type headlight lense, yeah they work. I’ve used the Mcguires brand restoration kit numerous times for the acrylic like headlight lense housings on the upper fairings of my motorcycles. One kit lasted me for numerous applications over a period of years and I’m pretty sure I still have some left over in the basemant. As Bling pointed out, there’s a method of wet sanding that involves using wet-dry grits that progress from about 500 to 2000 grit depending on how hazy, pitted or scratched up the lenses are. The kits come with a polish that’s used after the sanding. The polish can be applied and worked by hand, but I’ve had the best luck using a dremel type tool for small detail type work with a buffing wheel attachment. If you use that method I’d recommend masking off the surrounding area to prevent the polish from slinging all over your nice and lustrous paint. I know this from experience as it happened to me and made me use bad words…Haha! I’ve never applied any clear coat afterwards simply because the lenses came out like new and I didn’t see the need.
Yeah, jj, I can picture Rats rippin’ up the road in that Mustang. I’ll bet he bought a high performance model. My son has a friend who owns a ’20 or ’21 GT and it makes almost 500 HP. It’s no joke. I’m sure it’s a lot of fun. My fast car days are behind me, but I still own two motorcycles of the one-litre sport bike class. An RC-51 and an R-1. The R-1 “only” makes roughly 200 HP, but it weighs in at a little less than 425 lbs…Haha! They both have the propensity to get a guy in trouble, but I spend much more time twisting fasteners and polishing them in the garage or basement than I do actually riding them unless it’s at the track. However track time’s getting to be really expensive, so that’s been limited for the past few years or so.
1td, thanks for the tips. Yes I was thinking a kit compatible with power tool use would be easier and yield better results. Plus, we need reasons to justify the money we’ve spent on our tools. More importantly, I don’t want to mess up my shoulder or elbow before Spring Training starts due to overexertion. Good point about the slinging, in one of the vids I saw a guy taping off the surrounding surfaces.
Yeah, I’ve never had an issue, Euro, but I’m not entirley certain that the specific chemical compounds in the polish are entirely harmless to a nice paint job, so I masked it off. The area surrounding the headlight housings on my motorcycle upper fairings are made from a lightwight ABS type plastic and I was concerned about the possibilty of a blemish or discoloring, so I thought better safe than to feel the need to utter profanity and throw something against the wall in garage…Haha! And yeah, the Dremel’s easier on us older guys however, I also used a bit of hand work at the end of the process to get a nice even finish simply because I’m picky. At any rate, I’ve found that with a little time and attention to detail, the results are like a brand new headlight housing lens. Also, if I recall correctly, the Mcguire’s kit (some other brands are much more expensive) only cost about $12 to $15, so it was well worth the money as it’s lasted for at least a dozen or so applications on both of my motorcycles and Mrs. 1TD’s car. My truck is still old fashioned glass so, no need for the new fangled polishing kits…Haha!
Be patient, Bling. In yesterday’s paper a local sportswriter/gypsy in StL. predicted a trade for a SP’er prior to ST. Of course, that was yesterday. No telling what the read is on Johnny’s palm today…

5) Donovan 7, Gorman 5Choosing Carlson over Nootz was the toughest for me, so I’m not surprised that one’s a dead heat. I chose Yepez only because I haven’t been afforded more than a glimpse of Burleson. Hopefully Alec will eventually cause me to regret that choice. I also chose Hudson. Judging from the tally, he’s certainly not held in anything that could be termed high esteem these days. Especially for a future 20 game winner…Haha! I had to go with Donnie, but it was a tough choice too. I really expect that Gorman will one day tater-up over 30 times and push close to 100 RBI’s across, but Donovan’s an important piece to the Redbirds right now. I also chose Woodford. No particular reason other than I like saying, “Woody”…At any rate, these are fun. Keep ’em coming!
Woodford or Thompson was toughest choice for me because I was going by horoscope, which is about as consistently effective as other methods for picking young prospects. Not only are Woody and Thompson both Scorpios, they share October 28 as their birthdays. Flip a coin. I bet I’m not the only one who saw this conundrum.
Interesting, Euro. I certainly wasn’t aware of that fact, but if I’d had been, my choice would have demanded an increased degree of thoughtful deliberation. I’ve always been a bit too leisurely in the choices I make. It’s one of the reasons I often end up wearing mismatched socks…
You can only keep one:
1) Hudson or Pallante?
2) Yepez or Burleson?
3) Carlson or Nootbaar?
4) Woodford or Thompson?
5) Donovan or Gorman?
I’m sorry I missed this one. Most of these are pretty easy calls, IMO.
Hudson has proven his ability to be a useful starter. Pallante, not so much.
Burleson brings all that Yepez does, but can actually play the field and is a badly needed lefty.
Carlson has a longer track record of value, and I think he breaks out this year. Noot has the saber going but I feel like it’s a risk. But both should be solid at worst.
Thompson is going to be a good bullpen arm for many years. Woodford is a 13th arm type.
Gorman has the power to be a star. Donovan is a good utility guy who could make Edman expendable if Winn is ready next year.Nice explanation, stlcard25. I don’t neccessarily agree with all the choices, but the insight is right on the mark.
I have to disagree with #1. Pallente did remarkably well for a pitcher brought up from AA and thrown to the wolves due to organizational need. That need arising because other guys, including Hudson, could not answer the bell. I foresee Pallente rounding into a solid and reliable rotation arm. Sadly, I also foresee Hudson’s bad shoulder preventing him from exploiting his talent.
Carlson and Gorman both have immense talent as well as holes in their game exposed by MLB opponents. Whether they will adjust remains to be seen, but has not been smooth sailing so far. Noot and Donovan have shown the knack for getting the most out the talent they have. We will just have to stay tuned to see who does what this year.
I like Thompson and Woody both. The question is what kind of opportunities will they get this year. Staying healthy is an important attribute.
The question with Burly and Yepez is whether either can outplay one of the three starting outfielders. In both cases the bat would have to offset defensive limitations, but that can theoretically happen. They need to get moving with Walker looming.
