Are people feeling any better about the Cards losing to the Phillies now that Philly is on the cusp of eliminating the Braves? Seems like the Phils are this year’s team to get hot at just the right time.

I’m not. I was reluctant to face Philly. They outplayed the Redbirds during the regular season. In the first round, Marmol threw the series into the fire.

Cards had game 1 bagged. You never know but if they close that game out I think they win the series…

This year’s post season tournament is playing out a bit like the NCAA basketball tourneys, with a lot of upsets. If the Phillies, Guardians and Padres all advance, that will be 3 of the 4 division series going to the underdog.

But I suspect at least one of the favorites will climb back off the deck and take the next two.

Not really. I would be just fine with the Phillies losing.

Marmol should be fired for Goldy and Arenado hitting like undrafted rookies. In a related note I am officially blaming Ollie for my mail being delivered late yesterday.

Blame him for getting cute with the line-up, playing the IF in with 1 out, a 1 run lead and the bases jammed at HOME, and for assigning an injured pitcher to record 5 outs. Maybe he’ll be able to find a job as a letter carrier…

I’m not feeling better, because we had the first game won. Never should have lost it. If we had won it, it would have changed the dynamics of that round.

Phillies all over the Braves again 3-0 in the 2nd. Three run tater for Marsh. Earl would love it.

No cause I still feel the Phillies suck but I’ll say this. I would love to see the playoffs handed over to teams that haven’t won in a while or never won. But I feel Houston is going to win it’s series and all these upsets make it more likely they will win. And outside the cubs, there isn’t another team I hate more than the Astros.

Is this homerism or arrogance or both or something else? (see second item below)

Very cute but your vendetta against Marmol seems over the top to me.

If intended to be serious then that is sour grapes. Probably just frustration or sarcasm though.

And before the narrative of the “small market Padres taking down the mighty Dodgers” begins just remember that the Padres have a massive payroll themselves. Fifth highest I believe and one of the luxury tax offenders.

Well they arent going to cancel playoffs so it is what it is. Though personally I’ve always been a fan of how things were before wild card. I always felt the dodgers with buehler out were susceptible in the playoffs. Just like the Yankees and their power game. That stuff doesn’t tend to fly in post season if you don’t have as much an emphasis on pitching.

Sounds like a great idea to me. But to be consistent, LAD will need to return every World Series trophy they ever won to another team who won more games than they did during the season — well, except for 2020, which doesn’t really count anyway.

Would the 2020 World Series have counted if the Cardinals had won it? 🙂

Nah, it still wouldn’t count. Full seasons only, baby. Come to think of it, 1981 doesn’t count either, so that’s two reasons LAD should return that trophy, lol.

The Cardinals got robbed in 1981. I think we had the overall best record in the NL but didn’t win either “half”.

Reds had the best record, but Cards had better than LAD.

Cardinals were 2 full games better for the 102 games they played than anyone in the NL East in 1981. I remember that season like it was yesterday.

Redbirds, Mets and Braves all done. A Dodger loss later tonight lays the 4 best records in the NL to rest and further illustrates how the braintrust of MLB has relegated a 162 game schedule to what could be termed meaningless. The concept of a once iconic pennant race has been downgraded to a four week schedule. If I wasn’t a baseball fan, it would be laughable.

Reds took the same short end as the Cardinals in ’81. The 1981 split season was a decision made by Bowie Kuhn and probably contributed to his ouster.

Still playing a scoreless game in the 15th in Seattle. They’ll have make believe fairy tale runners in extras in next year’s post-season. This game is simply taking too long. Genuine baseball fans want to get these miserable games over as quickly as is humanly possible.
