jj-cf-stlParticipantAgainst lefties i get it KCB. Oli’s issue will be vs righties. He won’t want to sit Herrera, but vs all these lefties it hasn’t shown up yet.
May 17, 2025 at 5:57 pm #282460Cubbies/White Sox at Wrigley again this afternoon…Another lock.
May 17, 2025 at 6:01 pm #282461
jj-cf-stlParticipantYep, Herrera catching more could add starts. We’ve let Pozo dry rot enough to be forgotten.
May 17, 2025 at 6:04 pm #282462Yep I don’t see Herrera out of the lineup more than the occasional scheduled rest.
May 17, 2025 at 6:08 pm #282464I like the DH platoon as long as Burleson is hitting. It gives Herrera plenty of rest from catching and stabilizes that position. Yes, DH is a position. It’s not as easy as people think.
May 17, 2025 at 6:09 pm #282465Wise move 1TD, on grabbing the Hershey’s chocolate syrup. Definitely a must-have with vanilla ice cream.
Let’s look at some former Cardinals numbers. Jack Flaherty is 2-5 with a mid-4s ERA. A 2-5 record for a team well over .500 and leading the AL Central is not good. No regrets there for now.
Tommy Edman is only hitting .252 and his OBP is a paltry .295. He does have 8 long balls and a 128 OPS+. Let’s call him break even – he is not good based on Rat’s criteria with the low BA. And the low OBP keeps him from being stellar for many others. But the power surge is impressive, and he no doubt is playing solid defense.
Ty O’Neill – after an excellent season in Boston is back to the injured, struggling Ty with only two dongs and a batting average under .200. His OPS+ is a minus, a feeble 76.
So we can grade them this way for now, knowing things could change as the season moves on:
Flaherty – D – not missed at this point; our starters have been mostly better
Edman – C – doing okay and would be serviceable here, but we have others doing just as well
O’Neill – F – not missed at this juncture
May 17, 2025 at 6:11 pm #282466Checking the standings I happened to notice that the Orioles are really struggling at 14 under even and last place in the ALE at 10.5 back.
May 17, 2025 at 6:14 pm #282467Yeah 1TD, Baltimore has not had much go right. Not only is O’Neill not cutting it, but Kyle Gibson has been terrible.
May 17, 2025 at 6:18 pm #282468Edman’s been on the IL since early May, Bikemike, and the last I checked they were saying he won’t be activated until some time next week. That’s a shame, because before he went down he was in a dead heat with Judge, Schwarber and Ohtani for the Big League lead in taters…Haha!
May 17, 2025 at 6:22 pm #282469Yeah, he’s had some injury woes like O’Neill. It is odd that Edman’s power has amped up so much, at least early it did. He’s becoming Tyler O’Neill. 😀
May 17, 2025 at 6:32 pm #282470I was getting a real good laugh out of Little Eddie’s wildly unlikely power surge earlier this season. Every time I saw his name leading Ohtani, Betts and Freeman in every offensive category, I’d get get a good belly laugh and baseball’s supposed to be fun. But all jokes aside, Edman’s not going to hang any tremendously impressive OBP or BA numbers up on the board, but he’s going to provide something that can’t be measured on the back of his card. It’s been altogether obvious to me for quite a while that Tommy Edman is a genuine winner. He’s going to provide the big play with the mitt or the bat at precisely the right time. You can’t calculate a baseball player like Tommy Edman with numbers.
May 17, 2025 at 6:35 pm #282471Let’s see if Mikolas can give us a fighting chance.
May 17, 2025 at 6:36 pm #282472Miles might be able to record an out or two with those socks…Haha! What are those things?
May 17, 2025 at 6:41 pm #282473That was near to an eephus.
May 17, 2025 at 6:42 pm #282474We have to get Walker hitting. His defense is really good.
May 17, 2025 at 6:43 pm #282475Yeah, that was a nice play to keep that baseball from rolling to the RF wall.
May 17, 2025 at 7:02 pm #282477
jj-cf-stlParticipantPopped up a mistake. Got away with it.
May 17, 2025 at 7:04 pm #282478
jj-cf-stlParticipantNow Mikolas throws one.
May 17, 2025 at 7:08 pm #282479We have to get Walker hitting. His defense is really good.
In 2023 or 2024, is this a sentence anyone thought would ever be said? I don’t think he has been really good, but he has been average at worst and is leaps and bounds better this year.
May 17, 2025 at 7:11 pm #282480
jj-cf-stlParticipantWinn is not a fan of the southpaws change-up.
May 17, 2025 at 7:25 pm #282481Herrera just hits, hits, hits. Breaks up the no hit bid
May 17, 2025 at 7:25 pm #282482Did I forget to mention that Cameron’s working on a no-no?
May 17, 2025 at 7:32 pm #282483
jj-cf-stlParticipantThe D has looked good. Scott, Walker and Nado with plays
May 17, 2025 at 7:32 pm #282484Great start by Mikolas so far. Only at 65 hits, but I would have someone in the pen warming up. If he gives up a hit or a walk, pull him now that he is hitting 3rd time through the order. Pallante and Graceffo covered the game last night so the bullpen is fresh and able to cover up to 4
