Houston, because it’s just as likely that he could make a trade as not make a trade.

Just over an hour to go. More pitching trades including Robbie Ray and Mike Minor, but still haven’t seen a noteworthy hitter on the move. Still some speculation Marte is available.

Marte would seem to be a good fit….

Sounds like the Marlins landed Marte

Probably because he has a surplus of pitching and there are several teams that need pitching.

Looking at it again, the Cardinals are going to need every one of their pitchers to get through all the doubleheaders they have coming up this month.

Texas and Boston supposedly taking Eovaldi for Odor swap. Maybe Texas wants Wong in a swap for Gallo. And then add Kennedy and Duffy to the pen.

David Phelps could have been a good pen addition. St. Louis guy too. Going to Philly though.

Sorry to post all of these updates in the “Cardinal Trade Deadline” thread. I suppose they should have gone under the thread of each team.

Well, perhaps so, but then this thread would have been barren…

    Roster moves. How exciting.

The Cubs and Reds both made a lot of moves, although I don’t know if I would consider many of them impact players. A lot of supplemental pieces but sometimes those kind of moves can make a big difference in a playoff run.

In 2011 we got Edwin Jackson, Octavio Dotel, and Rafeal Furcal at the deadline and those players helped us during that world series run.

Well if it was cardinal related deadline it would be EMPTY

Well, lotsa starting pitchers changing homes, but Clevinger was the only big name. Unless I missed something, Jose Martinez, Kevin Pillar, Brian Goodwin and Starling Marte were the best hitters to be traded. Not a single impact bat.

This is an interesting perspective, common from Cardinals fans who overvalue the team’s talent on the back end of the 40-man. My guess is that most of the players to be waived will clear. And the ones that don’t would not have fetched much of anything in return. Not negative, just giving my honest assessment. I used to call it “The John Gall Syndrome”.

Thomas up, Nogowski down. We should be in much better shape now.

RE: Hudson and PDL early career struggles

BW asked: “How about number of IP per start? Are they even close?

Not a fair comparison, so I didn’t research it. I would always expect the rotation member who has the commitment of his manager, and the game history of 10 to 15 GS in a row, to log the higher IP/GS, because he’s on that throwing schedule.

The bullpen member making spot starts, I’d expect would have the lower IP/GS, regardless of who the players are, or which team they play for. Probably some exceptions, but as a general rule….

    “What is Ponce standout skill”

    For his first two seasons (18 & 2019) I’d point at a low H/9, a low .638 ops against and a K/BB of 2.13

Now that he’s struggling, each of those categories have turned to negatives, but it doesn’t mean he can’t turn things around.

    “The John Gall Syndrome”

    Did that make me laugh!

    (FWIW, I agree)

Getting all the guys back off the COVID IL is really like making multiple trades.
