Since I don’t have to change many of my picks, I may as well get it out of the way…

    47. Nelfry Ynfante, RHP, again. It may be his time this time.

    48. Jose Davila, RHP, again.

    49. Inohan Paniagua, RHP, again.

    50. Jack Ralston, RHP. I don’t have great confidence in this pick, but I’ve always generally thought that Ralston would somehow make it. Injury prone of late, he did what an older prospect should do to make up for lost time in high A and AA. I’m willing to toss him a vote here as a lotto ticket.

    47. Inohan Paniagua
    48. Osvaldo Berrios
    49. Nelfry Ynfante
    50. Bryan Torres

Torres is an independent signing that doesn’t have good upside, but he is a CF with good speed and he is really good at taking walks. He could be a late blooming depth chart type.

    47. Edwin Nunez
    48. Tre Richardson
    49. Adari Grant
    50. Jack Ralston

Richardson and Grant are my sleepers. I saw Richardson play in person a couple of times on the collegiate level. He has some real talent.

    47. Ynfante (maybe finally . . .)
    48. Torres (he’s quite good actually)
    49. Watson (I loved watching him dominate in the A ball playoffs)
    50. Sequera (Another young pitcher I like – just not quite as much as Ynfante)

I also have Findlay, Ralston, Iadisernia, and Sparks in my top 50, but we’ve run out of room. I used to have a fondness for Paniagua, but he’s reached minor league free agency and now re-signed. There just isn’t enough runway to get him to the Cards unless he re-signs again in the offseason.

Mosqueda is also kind of interesting. We got him with our first minor league rule 5 pick. I also am fond of Yordelin Pena. I’m hoping he gets to our list next year. We’ll see.

    #47 – Drew Rom
    #48 – Edwin Nunez
    #49 – Leonel Sequera
    #50 – Josh Kross

I feel like Rom will stay healthy enough this year to show some of what he has and why we traded for him. Not real confident with Nunez, but felt like this would be his last shot to prove himself. I also like Sequera’s chances of moving up this year. Kross hit well in a short stint, so looking to see if he can continue in that vein. I honestly forgot about Torres when I was making out my roster, so he didn’t make it in. He should have, even though he is older.

I admit Watson might end up being the find of the century, but I’m a pedigree snob so I didn’t bite on 13 affiliated innings. I have a feeling I will end up with egg on my face. But I notice Brian and Blake didn’t bite either. It illustrates what a crap shoot the draft is once you are past the top few rounds. Tons of guys like that out there who didn’t come up through the usual path. It seems like he was half way through his college days before he decided a future in baseball might be possible. He may well be someone who hasn’t been shredding his arm since 7th grade. He should get away from the curated environment at the Jupiter compound in 2025 and we will see how he progresses.

As to Bryan Torres, there is nothing magical about a seasoned 27 year old doing well in The Texas League. But I admit he might be in the right place at the right time with a skill set adequate to take advantage of the opportunity presented. His path is in CF though, and he is behind the golden boy Scott. So unless Scott makes the ML roster or gets bundled to help move a bad contract, it is hard to see Torres even getting a chance on the AAA roster. He might end up being a depth piece playing 2B at Memphis similar to Dunn. Being undersize doesn’t help.

Now to finish off the list (and the year), please list off 5 Honorable Mentions. You are welcome to vote them in order, but this will be an additive list, meaning each one of your 5 picks will count as one point. The rankings will be finished off with the total number of votes being the rank, with the tiebreaker being the first vote in. We will set a hard deadline of noon CT on New Years Eve, with a soft deadline of Monday morning if everyone gets their picks in before then. We’ll finish off the last of our list then and enjoy the end of the year in style! I’ve got a little New Years plan in mind for this thread, so stay tuned…

    My five (in order):

    Jose Davila, RHP
    Inohan Paniagua, RHP
    Dakota Harris, IF
    Jack Findlay, LHP
    Adari Grant, IF

Davila was a good enough starter at Palm Beach that I’m looking forward to seeing grow. Paniagua has a little more runway, we need to see him take a step toward St Louis. Harris has some Tommy Edman qualities to him. Findlay might end up a LOOGY or maybe has more in the tank, but he’s a sore arm guy. Grant is a switch hitting lotto ticket, so we will see if he takes it to the next level in Jupiter next year.

For my honorable mentions, I’ll list 5 guys that didn’t make the Top 50 who I still plan to pay close attention to next season because I have high hopes:

    Jack Findlay
    Michael Watson
    Yordelin Pena
    Bryan Torres
    Branneli Franco

I want to also include Austin Love here too, but there just wasn’t room.

A guy I looked at for the lower part of my list was Joseph King, RHRP, who started out like his pants were on fire for Peoria and went down in May with what seems to have been an elbow injury, and he never returned. He probably had TJ, but who knows. Brian and Blake have him at the tail end of their list but he hasn’t been in the conversation here. Jack Findlay is another TJ guy to look at once he is back. I have Hjerpe in that bucket with a big question mark for now, although nobody has said anything about surgery and we really have no idea what his health status is.
