Who would you send?
In the 2024 Arizona Fall League prospect showcase, #STLCards prospects will be a part of the Glendale Desert Dogs. https://t.co/VlZ6aKalNj pic.twitter.com/0StwfeCdmG

September 7, 2024 at 5:39 pm #266841If I had to guess one guy it would be Chase Davis.
I think maybe Mathews will have pitched enough innings for the year.
They sent Crooks last time, so maybe Bernal or Hernandez.
I wouldn’t mind seeing how Svansnon would stack up.
Any of the pitchers who missed a lot of innings due to injury are possibles, including Hence even though he was there two years ago. I hope they don’t use it as innings for upper level guys who missed time, but they might.
We will have to keep out eyes peeled for any indication of Bloom influenced decisions in the first post LaRocque AFL. 🙂
September 7, 2024 at 9:00 pm #266865The AFL players almost certainly were selected before the retirement announcement was made. They just haven’t been announced yet.

stlcard25ParticipantThe AFL used to be more of a finishing school for upper minors guys…maybe guys at AA to see if they were ready for AAA or perhaps even the big leagues. Now it’s very much a place to send guys who are single A or maybe just into AA to give them more reps in a given season. I don’t know if they’ll send guys who need more reps to get back into shape, but Roby would be one if he wasn’t a repeat attendee. Hjerpe would be as well.
I’d imagine they’ll send a catcher for sure so probably Bernal. I like the idea of Davis going. Maybe Baez or Cho, to try to get them some at bats at elevation for confidence? It’s probably too early for Wetherholt, but I truly don’t know what infield guys would even be options at Peoria. On the pitching side, Rincon and Heredia seem due. Dionys Rodriguez? Saladin? Maybe Mautz or Hansen but they may be past the innings limit. I think Mautz ends up in the pen anyway.
September 8, 2024 at 5:58 pm #266914Position player most likely – Chase Davis
Position player that has probably earned it – Matt KoperniakPitchers – I can’t imagine them sending Mathews. Not sure who is coming back from injury that will be ready for AFL.
September 9, 2024 at 3:55 pm #266952Any chance we can send Walker back to AFL?
Sort of Kidding and sort of not. Lol

cardsfan64ParticipantAs far as pitchers go Sem Robberse and Adam Kloffenstein come to mind if they are healthy enough. I would like to see they get in some games and not just side sessions.
September 9, 2024 at 5:48 pm #266956They need to send Koperniak.
September 9, 2024 at 6:00 pm #266957I would consider Svenson a strong candidate.
Komar is a oossibility
September 9, 2024 at 6:08 pm #266958It used to be a 26 year old AAA player wouldn’t go, but I don’t know about now. It didn’t used to be for AAA pitchers to make up time lost to the IL. Hopefully it will be younger fast risers.
September 9, 2024 at 6:34 pm #266961Hopefully it will be younger fast risers.
The Cardinals don’t exactly have any fast risers in the system right now besides Mathews.
September 9, 2024 at 8:53 pm #266978Wouldn’t mind seeing Lin go.

ParticipantRobberse and Roby are both just 22. I would like to see both there, although Roby pitched there last year too.
I don’t understand the infatuation with the older, above-average Memphis hitters here.
None of Nick Dunn, Antico, Baker, and Koperniak hit well enough at their age to be worthwhile major leaguers. A .200 pt OPS drop is typical, unless they are prospect age 22-24.
To put it into perspective, Carlson is younger than desired AFL-attendee Koperniak.

cardsfan64ParticipantAccording to Andy Carroll of Scoops Network, Matt Svanson is headed to AFL.

cardsfan64ParticipantThe more I look at what he did this year, I am thinking the Cards will give Koperniak a shot in the AFL; as a nod to his solid year in Memphis. I may be wrong, but sounds like something they would do.
September 24, 2024 at 9:38 pm #267880Pads – for me, it is not that Koperniak is great, it is that everyone else besides Jimmy Crooks and late season Chase Davis has been a major disappointment. So, Koperniak gets it by default.
September 25, 2024 at 10:59 am #267922My quick look at the #stlcards representation in the Arizona Fall League, a group that includes five members of The Cardinal Nation's Top 50 Prospect List, led by no. 6 IF Thomas Saggese. https://t.co/Re7aNlfwuN pic.twitter.com/Tz3KMKmZp7

September 25, 2024 at 11:09 am #267927Alex who?
🙂September 25, 2024 at 12:08 pm #267929PadsFS
ParticipantSaggese is an odd addition since he’s in the majors right now.
I like the addition of Bernal, but wish Davis was going as well.
Mautz is a good move too on the pitching side. Also Henderson
September 25, 2024 at 1:31 pm #267935Mozeliak to LaRoque: How do we confuse everyone who wants to get a good look at all of our pitching potential up close? Baseball America just claimed us to be a top pitching talent. Everyone is going to be watching and trying to copy us.
LaRocque: I don’t know. Is that really what this is for?
Mo: Let’s send 3 lefties that are all very similar looking so they really only get a look at one kind of player. And, send them someone with the most boring arsenal possible. Also, send Fredbird.
LaRocque: I gotta have Svanson, John. He’s been lights out. You wouldn’t let me move him to Memphis all year and he needs some kind of shot against good prospects.
Mo: Ok. Fine. Scratch Fredbird then.
September 25, 2024 at 3:09 pm #267937I think it was like this:
Mo: No sore arm pitchers this time Gary.
Gary: Uhm…October 9, 2024 at 6:15 am #269337In their AFL season opener on Tuesday, Glendale outslugged Peoria. Three #STLCards saw action in the later innings. Leonardo Bernal entered as a defensive replacement in the sixth, followed by Nathan Church in the eighth and Alex Cornwell pitched a scoreless eighth in relief.… pic.twitter.com/OIFxEfXW6W

October 10, 2024 at 7:42 am #269405In Wednesday Arizona Fall League action, the Glendale Desert Dogs (1-1) lost to visiting Salt River. Over nine plate appearances, #stlcards CF Nathan Church (p) singled and 2B Thomas Saggese walked. https://t.co/u8Ar2ktFGf pic.twitter.com/5Kkwy7kRMU
