Frankly I am just glad this miserable season is finally over with so we can get onto the offseason and try to get the Cardinals rebuilt.

gscott, I feel a part of that too, but on the other hand I really enjoyed watching the playoffs this year. That shows me what a great game I think baseball is, and how special it is when your favorite team is also a part of the post-season.

I don’t like the off season and I really don’t like the winter and shoveling the driveway makes me say lots of bad words…And regarding the rebuild of this team, it’s my view that the Cardinals won’t ever win anything with the current manager in place. Ruth, Gehrig and Mathewson wouldn’t play for this guy.

It is my opinion that Ruth, Gehrig, and Mathewson wouldn’t get a chance to play for this guy if the spreadsheets said no or the budget gurus said no.

Maddux and Albert wouldn’t work here any more, I can’t imagine a good manager would either. Mo would have his choice of somebody looking for his first manager gig or a loser looking for a second chance.

I can’t either and I’ve mentioned before that I feel it’s to the point that it’s not limited to managers or coaches. I get the feeling a lot of quality players would shy away from playing for the current collective leadership of this organization. At this phase the group running the operation can hardly help but to have a lousy reputation.

It depends how much money they throw around. Players talk a big game but ultimately it usually comes down to playing time and the $$$$$, regardless of the manager and the PBO.

I’d say you’re right in the sense that money and egos almost always factor into the equation. But so does the reputation of any sort of work environment. I’d also have to guess that, organizational leadership aside, that St. Louis in general is a place that is a bit handicapped as a desired destination for a guy in his 20’s who earns a lot of money. Especially a young single guy. I mean, if he looks around and sees SF, NY, LA, or even FL, I’d say he’d probably be more attracted to those sorts of destinations that he would to somewhere that features a stainless steel arch…Haha! And when you add in the possibility of working in a caustic workplace, I’d have to say there’s a decent possibility of a player shying away from playing here.

IIRC, last winter it took an extra year to get Contreras. Things won’t be different this year and likely worse. But I agree if BillMo blows everyone else out of the water he can get guys.

Really enjoyed this year’s post season, and am happy for Garcia and Montgomery getting rings. Also Gallen and Pham had their moments and have nothing to be ashamed of.

It was good watching quality baseball. As some have opined, I am not real optimistic about our club in the near future. It just seems we have weak on field leadership, especially when you look at the post season teams and think of us. I mean look at the pitching coaches – Brent Strom and Mike Maddux, compared to Dusty Street? Sheesh..but we will see how the off season evolves.

Ha bikemike, Dusty Street gets no respect.

The race to two strikes is underrated.

Buying some FAs won’t solve the kind of problems the Cardinals have. But some people think its just about the ML payroll not being high enough.

Dusty Blake that is. See, the guy is such an unknown that I don’t even get his name right!! 😀

Blake’s resume isn’t much, but I assume he is adequate for the pitching coach role as defined by Mo.
