October 3, 2023 at 7:12 pm #235160I’d like to see the Brewers win it all.
October 3, 2023 at 7:49 pm #235164Think about this…The two best MIL, Brewer season’s in their entire history were both ended by the St. Louis, Cardinals. If I were a Brewer fan, I’d not be too fond of the Redbirds.
October 3, 2023 at 7:51 pm #235165We’re a long way from the last best of 7. Maybe that’s good, but maybe it’s not. I’d have to say that the WS is still the WS. I hope that stays the same.
October 13, 2023 at 2:51 pm #235671Here are the early odds from betonline.ag before the LCS start.
2023 World Series – Odds to Win
Houston Astros 19/10 (+190)
Philadelphia Phillies 21/10 (+210)
Texas Rangers 11/4 (+275)
Arizona Diamondbacks 19/4 (+475)October 25, 2023 at 6:08 am #236300And the two long shots are in. Texas vs. Arizona starts Friday night. Coincidentally, I am going to be in Phoenix next week.
October 25, 2023 at 8:25 am #236306The glad to be here series.
October 25, 2023 at 10:30 am #236312I hereby register my ongoing rant against MLB for scheduling all World Series games as night games.
Curse you MLB!
October 25, 2023 at 1:21 pm #236318From betonline.ag:
Arizona Diamondbacks vs Texas Rangers
Arizona Diamondbacks +155 (31/20)
Texas Rangers -175 (4/7)
Note: The odds suggest the Rangers have a 63.6% likelihood of winning the World Series.October 25, 2023 at 2:25 pm #236323Anyone here think that after the Goldschmidt trade, Arizona would get to a World Series before St. Louis?
I am with CIF on World Series game times. But we all know that is based on revenue. If I were the boss, I would have had the LCS series both end no later than Sunday. Then I would start the World Series with a night game on Tuesday, and an afternoon game on Wednesday. Thursday would be travel day, with games 3, 4 and 5 scheduled for Friday night, Saturday afternoon, and Sunday afternoon. Six and seven if needed would then be Tuesday and Wednesday evening affairs.
October 25, 2023 at 2:45 pm #236330I’m sure a lot of you recall when ALL WS games were scheduled as day games and I’m reasonably certin that the last WS day games were played between the Cardinals/Brewers during the weekend of the ’82 WS. At any rate, day WS games were really good when you were a kid in school and had a really cool teacher. He or she would wheel in the portable TV set and let us kids put the silly books away and follow the WS action in the classroom. Teachers were smart enough back then to know that requiring a classroom full of kids to watch and pay close attention to any WS game was far and away a more valuable and educational life experience than any old textbook could provide. Heck, if it weren’t for baseball, I probably would have never had the motivation to learn how to multiply or divide any set of numbers. If Big League baseball had any interest at all in improving the educational experience of today’s misguided youth, they’d once again start scheduling all WS game to be played under God’s precious sunshine…
October 25, 2023 at 2:53 pm #236331I am looking forward to this series. Texas(Jordan Montgomery) vs Arizona(Christian Walker) is the best non-Cardinal match-up. I saw Monty(Gumby) & Christian play every home game at the University of South Carolina as a season ticket holder. They are two of my all-time favorite Gamecocks.
October 25, 2023 at 7:59 pm #236346Teachers were smart enough back then to know that requiring a classroom full of kids to watch and pay close attention to any WS game was far and away a more valuable and educational life experience than any old textbook could provide.
Ha, I never had any of those teachers. I do remember racing off the school bus just in time to see Gibson strike out the side for his 17th K in Game 1 of the 68 WS.
October 25, 2023 at 10:08 pm #236350I can still vividly recall a certain 6th grade teacher named Miss Latta rolling in the TV set to let us kids watch the ’69 Mets/Orioles WS and how the whole classroom full of us youngsters were laughing uncontrollably during the arguments that ensued during both the shoe polish play in game 5 and when Weaver was ejected in game 4. Miss Latta was a really cool teacher and I’ll bet she was having more fun than we were as she watched us young kids laughing and having such a good time watching the games. Those sure were the days, Euro. As in DAY games…Haha!
October 25, 2023 at 10:12 pm #236351Yeah, Gamecard, it should be a good WS. I’m not yet taking on a favorite to win it, but I hope it goes the full 7. If it does, it’ll be edge of the seat action like always. Glad you get to see your two favorite old college players square off on the big time stage of the WS!
October 26, 2023 at 7:19 am #236355Really cool that a couple of your college alumni are in the Series, GC.
Two teams not many would have picked to be playing this late. I guess my cousin’s son put $40 down at 20 to 1 odds on the Rangers getting to the World Series, and so he picked up a cool $800 with their win on Monday night.
Both teams really turned things around this year. Sort of the opposite of our club, and the Mets. Well, I guess you could say us and the Mets “really turned things around this year”, but in the wrong direction! 🙂
October 27, 2023 at 2:40 pm #236418I’ll probably miss tonight’s world series game. I am headed down to Jasper for the high school football tournament game. The Tigers from Evansville Memorial High School travel to Jasper to meet the Wildcats of Jasper High School in the 2nd round of Sectional play. The two teams met the first game of the year down in Evansville with Memorial coming away with a 30-13 win. Jasper has improved and the game is also on their home field. Both teams come in with identical 7-3 records.
As long as the wind and rain stay away it will all be good. I am going to call this one 21-14 Jasper in a barnburner.

jj-cf-stlParticipantGo Rangers!
October 27, 2023 at 7:31 pm #236430How’d you like the way 43 trusted Pudge with the low breaking stuff on the 1st pitch?
Rangers off to a quick start. Garcia has already tied Freese in his first AB by collecting his 21st post-season RBI. He hit it hard off Gallen.
October 27, 2023 at 9:26 pm #236432Yeah, if he stays hot and this WS goes to 6 or 7 games he could put a record in the books that should last for quite some time.
October 27, 2023 at 10:31 pm #236433Wow, what a way to get this WS started. Seager just hit a 2-run HR in the bottom of the 9th to tie the game.
October 27, 2023 at 11:12 pm #236434Wow again. Garcia just walks it off with a lead off HR in the 11th.
October 28, 2023 at 5:18 am #236437Mr. October plays for somebody else.
Notice the Rangers used 5 relievers and they didn’t walk anybody. DB’s relievers walked 6 guys, and in the 9th it cost them the game when one of them scored on the game tying homer.
October 28, 2023 at 6:45 am #236438It is worth noting that both WS pitching coaches, Maddox and Brent Strom, are veterans of the Cardinals org.
There is a story by Jeff Jones in the Belleville paper discussing some background. One item I especially noted:
“. . . Montgomery mused to the assembled media that he was excited the Rangers were his destination because he was eager to reunite with Maddux, with whom he has unquestionably enjoyed his greatest success as a professional.”

I also note that after Strom had left STL he was Astros pitching coach for their 2017 101 win WS championship team, and he’s back there again with the DBs.
October 28, 2023 at 8:51 am #236442In the day, Strom led the minor league pitching and Duncan led the big league side. Both had their proven methods and successes, but I am not sure if they were in sync. When Luhnow left, so did Strom along with about a dozen staffers.
I really enjoyed Game 1.
