My loyalties to the NL extended to the All Star Game, at least years ago when I thought it was worth watching. But in the WS, my like or dislike of specific teams always trumped League allegiance, e.g., always pulled for the Os in their several trips to the WS.
October 30, 2023 at 6:24 pm #236556I find myself pulling for the team that’s trailing in runs during a game or in games during any particular series. Routs are no fun unless the Cardinals are the team administering the pain and punishment. In any event, this WS in now knotted at 1-1 and I’ll be hoping it extends to a full ride and we get a 7th game. Of course, that would go against today’s common wisdom that tells me it’s best to “speed up the game”…I say let it go 16 innings in a 7th game before winter sets in and we have no baseball.
October 30, 2023 at 7:34 pm #236557Looks like Game 3 might be a good one. No score after 2 innings. DBacks had some hard contact off Scherzer in the 2nd, but Garcia saved him by gunning down Walker at the plate, after Walker ran through a stop sign at 3B.
October 30, 2023 at 9:19 pm #236559I didn’t get a chance to tune in until just now, so I checked the box and it looks like Bochy’s formulating a pretty nice BP type game with the arms he’s working. He seems like he kind of knows what he’s doing…
October 30, 2023 at 10:20 pm #236563Scherzer left the game early due to back tightness. He was looking hittable prior to leaving.
Garcia came out of the game after an injury on a swing (fly out). Maybe an oblique?
October 30, 2023 at 10:57 pm #236565The home plate umpire, Alfonsa Marquez, was not very good tonight. He missed several balls and strikes calls.
October 30, 2023 at 10:57 pm #236566Oh ok, Euro. Well, the Rangers overcame those two misfortunes to take a 2-1 lead in the series. Chappy looked like he was going to make things interesting, but a K and a real nice play by the SS Seager to start a GIDP bailed him out in the 8th. I was hoping for extras, but AZ went quietly in the home half of the 9th. I’m told they play genuine extra innings during post-season play. I forgot what extra innings look like because they don’t play them anymore during the regular season…Haha!
October 31, 2023 at 5:19 am #236568Both teams will be down into the middle of their rotation tonight. We’ll see how they match up as to rotation depth.
October 31, 2023 at 5:51 pm #236589Tonight’s game (Game 4) isn’t as much about the middle rotation starters as it is the bullpens. I think both teams view it as a pen game.
Garcia not starting tonight (oblique). That doesn’t sound good for the rest of the series, but maybe if it’s not too bad PRP or cortisone can get him back on the field.
October 31, 2023 at 5:58 pm #236590I hope the home plate umpiring is better than what it was last night. Alfonso Marquez’s stat sheet was really bad from what I saw.
October 31, 2023 at 6:06 pm #236591I saw a few of his calls that were awful. It probably didn’t change the game’s outcome, but you never know. In some games it would’ve changed the outcome.
You just can’t have one incompetent schmuck messing up a world series like that. You just can’t.
October 31, 2023 at 6:32 pm #236594Garcia and Mad Max are done for the Series. Tough blow for Texas, but it happens.
Yeah, that home plate ump was not very good last night. The call that might have changed the game was the D-Backs lead off hitter in the 9th. He should have drawn a base on balls, but the ump called ball four a strike making the count 3 and 2, then he grounded out. Next two struck out, but still you never know – get that lead off walk and things might have looked different.
Getting that lead off guy makes a big difference. Some of us remember game six, 1985.
October 31, 2023 at 6:57 pm #236597That is a major blow to Texas and I’m a little surprised that the docs and trainers can’t numb him up enough to at least be available as a PH’er or DH for a WS. He must be pretty skint up. It seems like not that long ago when we saw Kirk Gibson barely be able to hobble into the batter’s box with two bad tie rod ends to take his rips against Eckersley and feature an occurance that we still don’t believe we saw…Haha!
October 31, 2023 at 8:09 pm #236598Jankowski (next man up for Garcia) is 2-2 with 2 RBIs, now in the 3rd inning.
October 31, 2023 at 8:10 pm #236599Three run tater places this one out of reach in the 3rd inning. 10-0 Rangers.
October 31, 2023 at 8:15 pm #236600I suppose for an oblique injury to a baseball player, the one single-most impacted task is swinging a bat.
October 31, 2023 at 9:42 pm #236606Heaney gave 5 very good innings, so not the pen game they were talking about. He went 2/3 of an inning in his LCS start, so quite a difference tonight. Bochy and Maddux have to be elated with that, especially now that Scherzer is gone. In the context of our modern post-season, you could say Heaney delivered an iron man marathon outing (5 innings, 80 pitches).
October 31, 2023 at 11:09 pm #236608Yep, I imagine swinging a bat while suffering from an oblique injury is as difficult as putting on socks with a wrenched back…At any rate, the Rangers didn’t seem to miss Garcia in tonight’s game.
November 1, 2023 at 8:21 pm #236625Not one comment yet on the ’23 WS thread? Heck, tonight’s game could be the last one of the season. Go, Dbacks!
November 1, 2023 at 8:25 pm #236626Been watching. Half way through with no scoring, but plenty of action and excitement.
November 1, 2023 at 8:40 pm #236627DBacks fail to score again in the 5th after getting RISP, this time bases loaded. Eovaldi trying to help them will all those free passes. It is at the point now where it has to be peeving the DBacks and casting some doubt.
November 1, 2023 at 8:45 pm #236628Zac Gallen weaving a masterpiece through 6. Shall I say it? Nah.
November 1, 2023 at 9:00 pm #236629He’s in serious trouble here in the 7th. One run already in with runners at the corners with no outs.
November 1, 2023 at 9:54 pm #236637Semien just drove a stake through their hearts. Turn out the lights, as some guy from Texas used to say.
November 1, 2023 at 10:02 pm #236638Yep, the Rangers win their first world championship while Bochy collects his 4th as a manager.
