They must have Helsley situated at a safe house somewhere in the Maryland or Virginia countryside. I haven’t heard anything about him lately.
Well, that’s a smooth half dozen. Problem is, they could break that 17 game streak of ’21 and still not catch the Brewers.
1TD, looks like he was signed by the Phillies in 2016, so he must have done a few years in the minors. I didn’t do deep research, but agree it’s odd to be pitching at the major league level for three years without a decision or save. His best numbers are by far with the Cardinals, so maybe he’s found a home here?
Helsley has started light throwing. Probably 2-3 weeks out before he would join the MLB team. So we have to figure out the lack of bullpen pitchers for a while. They just acquired 2 vet minor league pitchers with some major league experience. But neither is very good. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see one of them or Naile replace Leahy tomorrow.
Its a Winner. Good all around game for us. Wonder about that Black Hole in the sky behind first base though. Go Cardinals!
Romero has always had pretty good stuff. He’s just always struggled with consistency like a lot of pitchers. It seems to be coming together for him lately. Let’s hope it holds up.
Jo Jo is 2-0 with a 2.76 era so far this year. He just pitches with a lot of confidence. He attacks hitters.
Yeah Leahy is history. Gave up a triple, two walks, and hit a guy in the head.

Yeah, this year, gscottar, but I just thought it was odd that he never recorded a decision until ’23. It looks peculiar on his BR career line.

As to the final observation, however, I’ll believe that Hell has frozen when Ollie Marmol can get through an entire game without doing something incredibly stupid with either the defensive alignment, batting order, or bullpen usage. Tonight’s brainfail was Gallegos entering the game with a 5-run, 9th-inning lead.
The only time you ever use one of your top two or three relievers to protect a very big lead very late in a game, is when he needs the work. And of course with Gallegos this evening it was the exact opposite circumstance. He’s now thrown 3 of the last 4 days, and with no abbreviated outings — he’s averaged 20 pitches per appearance.
Now, thanks to the indefensible use of Gallegos tonight, he can’t possibly pitch tomorrow, and probably shouldn’t be used on Saturday afternoon either. Ollie Marmol: what a maroon.
I am ok with Ollie’s pen use last night. We are a team adept at blowing big leads. Win today’s game today. Worry about tomorrow’s game tomorrow.

Regarding the bullpen usage, on Wednesday we used Thompson, Pallante, Tepera, and Stratton. Tepera was then DFA’d.
Last night’s game he brought in Pallante again, Leahy, and Romero. So the options for the 9th inning were Gallegos or Hicks. Or bring Romero out to try for 2.1 innings. The real issue is that we were playing with a short bullpen. I wonder who manages the roster? Hmmmmm….I hope the current run does not fog up Mo’s brain such that he decides not to make all the moves that need to be made….
I agree. We need to stick with the plan of moving out the guys on expiring contracts. The only twist I could see is if we keep winning Mo might try to sell and buy at the same time. In other words trade MLB guys for MLB guys. That isn’t easy to do but might be possible.
