Things sure do change. Back when Dave Kingman was playing, he couldn’t stick around with one team for more than 2 or 3 seasons. He was a genuine one trick pony and received all kinds of severe criticism from both media and fans alike. Adam Dunn was somewhat similar. Today, teams would be drooling all over themselves to sign up a guy like Kingman for 5 or 6 years for more money than you could hoist with a forklift. I’ll bet he had one heck of a launch angle. Whatever that means…

In Mo’s mind, Burly is a two way player.

Dang Oli. So much for it being a rivalry I guess.

Its starting to sound like bad news about Donovan’s arm. Resting it already didn’t work.

Haha…He’s a genuine swifty! You almost have to like the stuff that he tells everyone…”I’ll tell you that.”

Here’s something else that I find interesting about Dave Kingman. How many players can you name who retired after a final season in which they hit 34 HR’s and collected 94 RBI’s? He became a FA after the A’s chose not to offer him a contract at the end of his final Big League season in ’86. No one wanted him over the winter of that year, so he signed a AAA contract with the Giants in July of ’87 and made the decision to retire not long after. He was later awarded a bit more than $800K after it was determined he had been victimized along with several other players by criminal type MLB team owners who were engaging in collusion. Nice guys, every one of them…

On a good note……the Doppler Radar shows all clear in the Chicago area. Shouldn’t have any delays tonight. Although with Jerry Mathers on the mound tonight we might be hoping for a delay.

I once closely watched an episode in which Robert “Rusty” Stevens who played Larry Mondello’s character was shown several times swinging the bat during recess at Beaver’s school and that chubby little kid had a really nice looking rip…He stood in from the left side and you could simply tell that kid could play! He looked much, much, better than little Theodore who was being mercilessly teased by ugly Judy and even his friend Whitey for not being able to play the game very well…Phat Larry could hit!

Tepera signed as a FA on 17 Jul, DFA’d on 20 Jul. tough business. I’ve heard of one day gigs before, but three days is tough too. My guess is he knew it was in the cards, so to speak.

Yeah, I guess it’s a tough business, however it’s my understanding that one day on a Big League roster qualifies a player for a lifetime MLB health plan. Hey, it’s something…

Without Donovan leading off, Goldschmidts obp is already having an impact.

Wisdom is demonstrating the value of good defense.

Maybe the scorekeeper gives Goldy a hit to avoid Wisdom having 3 errors?

Nowadays they’d give Jan Stenerud a hit on a missed FG attempt…

The dreaded early 5-0 lead. We are in trouble. But this team has looked different in the last week. Maybe we will actually hold on this time.

Not too bad when you can end a 10-6 SP’ers turn after 3.2 IP’ed.

You’re a mind reader, Bikemike, but Matz working on the 1 hitter with no BB’s. He’s got this lead covered…

Cards on a roll, DeJong with a 2-run oppo shot. Oli’s amazing managing is finally starting to kick in.

Noticed DeJong with the puffy jaw in the dugout after his HR. As many times as I’ve seen that, I never really figured it out. Does he line his jaw with seeds, tobacco, or is he just mocking Vito Corleone?
