And good game by Matz. If he could do that each time out he could justify that contract.
We played raggedy defense and only got 5 hits, the starter came in 0-7 and the pen’s A team was unavilable. You just never know.
What is the problem with Gorman???

Can we send him back to Memphis to try and get him straightened out?
Gotta give credit where credit is due…Matz was great today. Now string 4or5 of those together and we may have a solid starter back. And he can blame Oli for not getting his W today.
Agree on Gorman. He needs to reevaluate his approach at the plate. Something is obviously off.

Nothing. He is as he was. A .230-.240 platoon hitter with poor bat on ball skills who strikes out too much but has nice pop. He is super streaky and when he has a hot streak the hype hounds think he turned into Babe Ruth. He is an average defender with a good arm. It seems like he’s streaky on defense too.
Yeah, no question he’s streaky, Bling, but you almost have to acknowledge that he’s been better in his second go around. I mean, he’s collected 17 HR’s and 52 RBI’s this season. Moreover, he’s barely 23 years old, so I’d say there’s a decent chance he could continue to improve. At any rate, placing him in the 3 slot for an extended period this season was an entirely inane thing to do. If he continues to improve as a hitter, I think he’d fit in well at clean-up or a little lower in the order depending on the options available to place around him.
Well we tried to give this one away late, like we have so many times before. This time we failed and eeked out a win.
Need to be bumbling more of these kind of games away so we can keep complaining about the manager, the pitching etc, and get a top five pick next year. 😁
Yeah, Gorman is young and like a lot of young guys with power he strikes out a lot. Tommy Pham and Ty O’Neill come to mind as guys who started out that way.
Hopefully he matures as a hitter and will be better as he gets the reps. Time will tell.
The guy I don’t understand is Carlson. He is still young, but I would have thought he would develop into a better player than Lane Thomas. At one time I even thought he might be a bigger Corbin Carroll. But he has not really developed.
Yeah, the bats managed to push 4 runs across and Cardinal pitching didn’t allow a solitary ER and the team wins by one run in extras. Nothing’s easy.
OlliMo will be able to arrange the rotation however he wants to pick back up after the break. I’m interested to see what that looks like.
I assume Flaherty goes Friday night and Mikolas on Saturday. Depending on Petersburg’s status I assume Matz might make the start in his place on Sunday.
Nope. Only thing said was that he’s supposed to meet with a team physician once the Cardinals arrive back in StL. I guess they’ll both sit down together and look at the pictures. I happened to see another article that quoted the little guy who wears a bow tie and works for the MLB network as saying both Montgomery and Flaherty were, “as good as gone” before the trading deadline.

Might as well get something for Monty. There will be equivalents on the FA market this winter, including him. Absolutely trade Flaherty before he goes on the IL again, the sooner the better.
Yeah, might as well. He and Quintana both served their purpose last season and Flaherty can’t wait to get out of StL. I won’t miss him too much. What worries me is that I can forsee a day in the not too distant future when players are hesitant to have any desire to play here due to the organization being tagged with a bad reputation. It wouldn’t surprise me if the word were already circulating around the league.

I hear you, TD. With Flaherty’s personality and fragility, even though he could have been a great one, I missed Lance Lynn and Ponce De Leon 20 times as much as I’ll miss this Flaherty fellow.
