Early on here Matz is a strike out machine, having whiffed three of the first four batters….. what’s got in to him?

Make that 4-5. You have to start thinking most strikeouts in a game here. I want to say the record is held by Nolan Ryan and Kerry Wood. Am I correct with that. If Matz does it, that’s some pretty sweet company that his name would forever be associated with……..Nolan Ryan, Kerry Wood and Steven Jakob Matz.

Pugs, the record for most strikeouts in a game is 21 by Tom Cheney in 1962

Giolito easily dispatches the 3 Cardinals he faces here in inning #3…….still no score…..matter of fact has there even been a hit yet?

Good thing you said that early, Pugs. If you had waited until the 6th inning or so, someone would have jumped through their computer…

Was that 21 K’s in the Japanese league, LACardFan? I’ve never heard of Tom Cheney……. I’ve heard of Lon Cheney, but not Tom.

LOL. Tom even pitched for the Cardinals (not when he threw the 21k outing)!!!

A rare error by Goldy here in the bottom of the 3rd, putting Chicago’s leadoff man aboard at 1st base. You’d almost have better luck finding a 1909-S-VDB penny in your pocket change than Goldy booting an easy grounder like this.

OK. So, it appears Cheney “cheated” in getting his 21k’s in a game, because the game lasted 16 innings.

Another error(Contreras) and a single stakes the ChiSox with an early 1-0 advantage. Matz isn’t fooling around here though, as he’s now whiffed 6 thru 3 complete. He’s on pace for 18, so he needs to just pick up the strike out pace a titch to tie Tom Chaney……..who I think LACardFan is still pulling my leg on.

So, Max Scherzer, Kerry Wood and Roger Clemens (twice) each have had 20 in a nine inning game.

Well grandson went to sleep so had a chance to watch but game isn’t on where I live. I guess that’s how it goes

Thanks for the Chaney whiff clarification, LACardFan! I thought that sounded fishy. Scherzer, Clemens and Wood….. thanks.

Matz is looking like the pitcher we want him to be. The defense, not so much.

Cards making all sorts of mistakes early on here as Goldy gets nailed with ease at 2nd base. Cardinal In France and Willie in the house…..how sweet is that! It’s a rare sighting indeed when those 2 Birds are onboard in a game thread simultaneously. What’s on tap for din-din tonight, Cardinal In France?

The White Sox were sporting the nice looking pinstripe uniforms the other night and although the ones they’re wearing today are genuinely distasteful and brassy looking, they can’t compare to those short knickers they wore on the field for a bit in the 70’s. Remember those? I’m pretty sure the guy who came up with that idea is still in prison…

Contreras jerks a line drive homer to left and just like that St. Louis propels themselves into a 2-1 lead. Too bad Goldy got caught stealing 2nd.

Funny on the ChiSox uni’s, TD! I can see knuckleballer Wilbur Wood fondling the rosin as we speak with those uni memories.

Cards get just the 2 as we head to the bottom of the 4th in a 2-1 St. Louis ballgame. But the real suspense here is Matz’s quest for the 9 inning K record.

Those things were beyond bad, Pugs. I’m surprised the players didn’t refuse to wear them. Someone with a camera could possibly take a picture! Too risky…Haha!

Matz sets them down again in order in the 4th, but manages to record only 1 whiff this inning. If we’re going to continue the Matz most K’s in a game talk, he needs to get 3 strikeouts next inning.

Cards go down with nary a whimper in the top of the 5th, as I don’t think Giolito even threw 8 pitches. Big inning coming up for Matz.

Sunday din-din was a veal filet roasted in a port wine sauce, with roasted potatoes and snap beans. Just a little ice cream for dessert.

I like winning, but keep in mind we’re playing a team that’s just as bad as we are.
