Yeah, Pugs, he allowed 8 hits before he got out of the 2nd inning and even the outs were hit hard.

On the din-din front, we are having marinated BBQ chicken, grilled vegetables, tossed salad (lettuce from our garden), and watermelon for desert.

If the Cardinals win I might be in a festive enough mood to wash it down with a cerveza.

Arenado with a two out, RISP hit to add a 7th run. Man, Contreras below the DeJong, er I mean Mendoza line – comes through with yet another two out, RISP hit.

Top of 7. Ex-Cub Carl Edwards Jr. on for Washington and I’m most pleased seeing Mr. Weems out of this game. I swear this Edwards’ legs are 6 feet in height alone…..I would nickname him “Daddy Long legs” Let’s rough up Jr. here shall we?

    Edman – Walks.

Donovan – Lines out to Garcia at 2nd and Edman is nearly doubled off 1st.

Goldy – Sends one in the air down the line in right where Lane Thomas will sprint on over and glove it just on the edge of the track for the out.

    Nooty – Walks.

Arenado – Goes the other way and pokes a base hit into right and in comes Tommy Boy with run #7. Nice piece of hitting….. let’s tack a couple more on here.

Contreras – Lines a base hit to center and Goldy will scamper on in with Arenado motoring on over to 3rd……8-5 Good Guys

    Walker – Strikes out gazing.

What the heck was Walker looking for? Man, that was a batting practice pitch.

Look how nice and easy Flaherty is dealing here…….he needs to bottle this.

Thomas having a nice year. Sort of under the radar with the Nats being a poor club.

Jack losing the plate all of a sudden.

How in blazes did Goldy nab that terribly errant throw to 1st from Flaherty??

A walk and a hit batsman will put an abrupt end to Flaherty’s afternoon. I would give Jack an F for the first 3 innings and an A- for his last 3.

Enter Genesis (pronounced “Hen-a-sis) “Cabby” Cabrera.

Cabby gets it done. Double steal, with a lefty batter no less, got a run for Washington.

A shut down bullpen and this is a win. With our club though, it’s probably about 60/40 on us winning leading by two on the road in the 8th against a sub-.500 opponent. Against a good team we would be 55/45 against winning.

Top of 8. Chad Kuhl on for the Nats

Gorman – Flies out to Thomas in extremely short right field.

DeJong – Hits a little jam-shot to the SS Abrams in short center field. Momentarily thought that was going to fall in for a hit.

    Edman – Walks.

Donovan – HBP……only grazed him and he’ll trot on down to 1st base none the worse for the experience.

Goldy – Flies out to Thomas in right, who has been a very busy man out there today……Robles and Dickerson can almost grab a little snooze in their outfield positions with as quiet it’s been out there.

Gallegos on to pitch the 8th.

And he has himself a clean inning as the Nats go down in order.

We are up to 70/30 now. If we had Dennis Exkersley in his prime the odds would be 99.5/.5.

Looks like Hicks is the current closer candidate. Needs to throw strikes or this will be tense.

I was thinking more of our pitching staff!

If we can hold me to 6, that’s a good outing for our staff.

Top of 9. Kyle Finnegan on to pitch the 9th for Washington.

Nooty – Taps a slow roller out to Garcia at 2nd and Nooty is now 0 for his last 14. Between him and Gorman, we have a 0-35 streak going on

Arenado – Flies out to Robles in center…… who’s happy to finally get a little action out there

Contreras – Fouls out to Smith at 1st base.

Wasn’t able to watch much, turned in late here in the game. Seemed like a rough start but good comeback. Nice win for the team.

Our new closer, Jordan Hicks on to close matters out here in the 9th. Let’s stay with the action shall we?

Smith – Nearly yanked a homer to right, but fortunately it drifted just to the right of the pole. Dominic then grounds out to Gorman at 2nd…..nice play by Nolan.

Robles – Grounds it up the middle but Gorman flashes over to intercept the ball and his throw to 1st is a nifty one……one more to go

Abrams – Bounces it back….and off Hicks’ glove and that’ll be an infield hit. Oh if he could have hung on to that I’d be picking up all of my empty beer bottles in the booth and heading on home.

Thomas – Strikes out swinging to end it.

    Your happy final:

    St. Louis Cardinals 8
    Washington Nationals 6

HicKs does it. Are we seeing the maturing of Jordan Hicks?

Any W’s always nice, but it’s a little sweeter when it’s pulled from the fire of a 5-0 deficit.

Flaherty gets a win for pitching to a 8.53 ERA today and a whip of 1.74!

    Bwahahaha!

    Thanks lineup

Won’t have Hicks available tomorrow so if we get into a save situation it will likely be VerHagen or Stratton’s game. Maybe Gallegos as he had a fairly easy inning today.
