Grays reverse splits are working vs this batting order. 3 lefties have produced 3 K’s. Righties are getting on.

Top of 3. This game is far from over…..let’s get a couple here shall we? But Flaherty has to get it together quick

DeJong – Dumps a little wounded goose out into short center field for a leadoff base knock.

Edman – Hits a deep drive to center where Robles races back to the track….and the ball glances off the top of his glove ….in trots Paulie and Tommy Boy will prance into 3rd with his third triple of the year…..5-1 Nats

Donovan – Lofts a fly ball to short left field where Dickerson comes in to glove and Edman has no choice but to stay put.

Goldy – Rips a liner into center for a base hit and when Edman touches home here the deficit will be sliced to 5-2.

Nooty – Blisters a shot but unfortunately right at the 1st baseman Smith….and that will easily double Goldy up…….ouch that hurt…..one can’t hit a ball much harder than Nooty just did here…….anyone have the mph off his bat?

    Pitching, pitching, pitching, pitching, pitching.

    That is all.

Did Edman bat rightie or lefty vs Gray?

This is just what the doctor ordered…… Flaherty sets them down 1-2-3 in the 3rd to restore a bit of order here. Flaherty has now lodged 58 pitches.

Boy how quickly we forget…..I think he hit righty when he blasted his triple to center, JJ.

    Top of 4.

Arenado – Bounces it out to Abrams at short and he’ll easily throw him out at 1st base.

Contreras – On 3-2 he strikes out swinging on a 96 mph heater…..it was a 9 pitch battle though.

Walker – Reaches outside and pokes a nice base hit to right field.

Gorman – On 3-2 Nolan flies out routinely to Thomas in right.

Well turnabout is indeed fair play, as Abrams scorches a shot….but right at Gorman at 2nd and they’ll easily double Robles off 2nd to retire the side.

Edman stepped in from the left side vs. Gray.

    Top of 5.

DeJong – Grounds a shot down the 3rd baseline for a hit and Dickerson will scoot over to gather it in by the side-wall, but not before Paulie checks into 2nd with a double …sweet start to the Redbird 5th.

Edman – Lines a base hit to right with DeJong slamming on the air brakes at 3rd and now the Cards are really in business.

Donovan – Whacks a long one to right…..Thomas looks up and watches it sail on out for a 3 run tater ….tie ballgame!

Goldy – Oh my oh my……bombs away baby! Goldy homers to left and just like that our Birds have seized the lead 6-5.

Nooty – Strikes out swinging, Gray’s 5th K victim on the afternoon.

    Arenado – Strikes out swinging.

Contreras – On 3-2 he grounds out to Candalario at 3rd……first time we’ve called out Candy’s name today

Thanks for the Edman clarification, TD……like I said, he was batting left on his triple.

Pugs…You’d think the box would indicate which side a SH’er was stepping in from, but it doesn’t. I’ve been paying attention to him for a while because every now and then he’ll hit from the right side vs. a RHP’er. I don’t know what he bases his decision on.

Nice to see these guys claw back from 5-0. A couple of come from behind W’s can go a long way towards getting the fellas amped up to produce a good head of steam and inspiring some confidence and tenacity.

I think he’s been around enough now where he knows from which side he should hit from vs these individual pitchers……with Tommy you never know from which side of the dish he’s going to select. But we fans too will eventually know from what side he’ll bat vs most of these hurlers. Maybe someone more knowledgeable (shouldn’t be hard to find) with this can weigh in, TD.

Flaherty whiffs 2 and yields one lone single to escape the 5th without blemishing his ERA. 6-5 Birds as we mossy along to the 6th.

Maybe this is the inning Gorman snaps out of it.

He almost always goes with the orthodox approach, but every now and then he’ll switch it up. Like you mentioned, I’m sure he has his reasons and I can’t detect a pattern. Maybe he keeps those reasons filed under sensitive information…Haha!

Top of 6. Gray exits after 102 pitches and in comes righty Jordan Weems.

Walker – Whiffs on a high 97 mph heater.

Gorman – Needs to bust out of his 0-20 funk right here and right now. Flys out to Thomas in short right-center field.

DeJong – Strikes out swinging and Weems has now set down the last 18 batters he’s faced in relief……we could use a man like him.

Flaherty has sure stopped the bleeding. He sets them down again in a pretty little 1-2-3 chorus line. Jack with 83 pitches through 6 frames now ….what a turnabout from those first few innings. When we were in the 3rd inning, I never in my wildest dreams envisioned Flaherty pitching in the 6th…..and now he could end up going 7 complete.

That hat Edwards is wearing is about two sizes too big.
