According to the box score, last night’s attendance was 40,886. That almost has to be the paid attendance and not the actual gate as counted by the old fashioned clicks of a turnstile. Anyone who watched that game last night and caught a glimpse of several camera angles that strayed into the seats could plainly see that even prime sections of field level boxes were scattered with empty seats and several sections of the second tiers located further towards the OF down the foul lines were virtually empty. It’s only a guess, but I’d have to say that a liberal count of live human baseball fans sitting in ballpark seats didn’t exceed 30,000 and was probably close to 5000 less than that. At any rate, I don’t know what the figure was this year, but in the past there’s been seasons in which 30,000 to 35,000 season tickets were sold during the off-season. I’d have to say that if the Cardinals continue to tank, this winter may see close to 10,000 of those people deciding to spend their box tops somewhere else.

I just saw an article on MSN.com that said Contreras made a comment that…..”I’ve lost my confidence…”

I think he’s lost more than that. He’s currently hitting .201 yet Marmol still keeps putting him in the #5 slot.

So, what’s worse? Contreras hitting .201 or Marmol still batting him 5th?

There’s really no cause to mention the Cardinal manager because he’ll be gone sometime before season’s end, but not until he’s finished manufacturing a hopeless season. He’ll then be placed in the same category as Vern Rapp once he’s all done, which is where he belongs. Contreras is going to stick around for a while and the new Redbird manager will probably place him at 5 or lower depending upon how he’s swinging the bat.

why in the world does he keep Gorman batting third? He is in a severe slump. Put him 6 or 7 until he figures it out.

There’s only so much room at the bottom of the order. If you move Contreras and Gorman down, you have to move other guys up. Show of hands, who wants Dejong in the middle of the order?

Yeah too many players slumping Contreras, Gorman, Edman. Goldie and Arenado not hitting at their usual level.

So he manufactured this mess all by himself? That would be quite a feat.

He’s the primary indredient stirred into the swill broth. The chieftain of just plain dumb. He’s of the precise same bloodline and forever joined at the hip with Vern Rapp and once he’s gone, you’ll never see him in another Big League dugout in any capacity. I wouldn’t trust him to ice up and fill the water jug…

I believe it was ZTR who insightfully stated the other day that Marmol is A problem but not THE problem. I agree with that. There are structural issues we have that are larger than him. If Mo isn’t the primary chieftain then I don’t know who is.

Besides the brand of water put into the jug would have to be approved by the front office anyway.

Johnny’s the chieftain of many things that could be termed unpleasant or insufferable, but just plain dumb isn’t one them. The Cardinal manager has that category entirely covered up.

The DBacks now have the best W/L record in the NL to go along with a 4 game lead over the Dodgers in the NLW. They lost 110 games in ’21.

Contreras has plenty of company. Edman’s 1 for 22 in his last 6 games. He’s down to .237 and seems to be rolling over more times than does a Jezebel on the village mattress. He’s fun to watch in CF, but we don’t need another Shane Robinson.

Unbelievable. How many crazy stupid things are going to happen this season? Carlson has a chance to make a good catch but instead of bracing against the wall, he goes through it into the bullpen.

I see another crappy early innning start our rotation.

C’mon Jackie boy! Rumor has it you or Monty that is likely on the move. Got to showcase those alleged ace like skills and work your way into big contract.

I’d say less than 25,000 fans in seats.

Arenado isn’t hitting at his usual level but his ops is now over .800. So he’s coming around.

Haha 1td on Johnny meets billy club! But you’ve got it exactly backwards. Teflon Johnny would never come down from the penthouse to be found in that situation. Probably need to think more along the lines of a reporter who wrote something that might be construed as indirectly critical of Mo.
