Gorman struggles with pitches up in the zone. That was Rick Ankiel’s weakness when he switched to being an outfielder.

Hopefully he can learn to layoff those, or put them in play. I really like his bat though – but I don’t like him hitting at 3. Maybe someday, but for now he would be at 5 in my lineup.

They were talking about DeJong’s defense, qb in has been his saving grace. He has not been worth the contract, but is definitely a good defensive player. So not a total bust.

Walker another hit. Great to see.

Yeah, for some reason it’s always been difficult for a LH’ed hitter to cover that pitch, Jnevel. Throw it to a RH’ed hitter and his eyes light up like he hit the jackpot. At any rate, like you mentioned, Gorman seems to bite every time lately.

Love seeing Donovan going the other way like that. He and Noot do that really well, but Donovan seemed to get away from that earlier this year. Seems to be going back that way again.

Walker hits his patented 107 mile grounder for a single, Carlson battles for a walk, and Donovan brings Walker home. Again, times they are a changin’. We’re about to go on a run again.

As I recall, they’ve pulled Montgomery around 85 pitches the last couple of outings. I agree he should stay in for 6, unless he gets into a 3 on nobody out situation and he’s over 100 pitches. But probably not what the computer says…

Just once in my lifetime I’d like to see Montgomery throw an 0-2 pitch for a strike. It would surprise every batter in the league.

We just need 5 more runs to get to 10-0 THEN we can relax.

ZTR – only if it’s 10-0 in the ninth with 2 out and nobody on.

Well – 5 innings down for Monty. It looks like he should be back for the 6th. At least for a few batters anyway. That’s 8 in a row he’s shutdown.

Gorman coming up. Watch how they pitch him. Same every time.

Monty has looked very good tonight. Nice to see strong starts in back-to-back games.

With us, a 5-0 lead in the fifth is like most teams up 2-0. In fact it was last Friday that we were up 5-0, and managed to give away the game. Uh-oh…we are in trouble.

He needs a win. And a QS would be nice too.

Ok. So yeah, that wasn’t at all what I was talking about. But same result.

Arenado stays on the ball until contact as well as anyone I ever recall watching.

Nice game Jordan Montgomery. 6 shutout innings. 11 in a row retired to end it.

18 scoreless innings in a row now for Cardinals pitching.

Monty thru six … looking really good. Pitch count just under 100. Send him out in the seventh with someone in the pen? Or, call the pen now?

I would send Monty out in the 7th, with a couple of guys ready in the pen. I mean the guy has a shutout going and is on a roll. But then I almost always think managers should let starters go a little longer than they do.

There was a game a couple weeks ago where Gorman got rang up on a high fastball out of the zone. It was very high leverage, 2 outs in the 9th, and he’s lost his plate discipline ever since. K’s are up, walks and contact are down.

Looks like they’re going to the pen.

I remember that pitch, jj. I’m not sure, but I seem to recall that K ended the game and someone compared it to a similar pitch to Betts that ended a game with the Dodgers earlier in the season.

I wonder why they have two signs that say “Bullpen” on that phone box? You should only have to tell them once…
