Watching two last place teams fighting it out. The net result, both teams are still in last place. Hardly even seems like Cardinal baseball.
First since 2011? I’ll be darned. He’s still no bargain. Especially vs. LH hitters and I sure wouldn’t mind too much if he were on our side.
Yeah, he’s still effective and I had a bad feeling about Gorman facing him with Edman at 3B and 1 out in the 8th after he’d K’d Goldy in yesterday’s game. Gorman deserves a lot of credit for lifting the sac-fly to RF to push across the run that proved to be the difference.
Chapman certainly isn’t what he used to be but I would prefer to have him pitch our 9th innings rather than Helsley or Gio. Maybe Mo can add that to his list for July transactions.

Chapman has a history of off the field incidents that cause me to give that idea a thumbs down.
Sometimes you get lucky as was the case with Carpenter and Tudor and to a much lesser extent with Williams, Happ, Lester and Weaver.

I’ve had enough of washed up pitchers.
I can’t argue with either of those points but of the five pitchers acquired in the last two deadlines (LeBlanc, Lester, Happ, Quintana, Montgomery) all were on expiring contracts except Monty. I am assuming that trend will continue, although Chapman isn’t the only pitcher available on an expiring contract.
I think both Monty and Bader are FAs after this year. Maybe tit for tat on years of control is what we can expect this time also.
A couple of articles about the Redbirds in two different area newpapers put forth and term two very similar, if not identical questions. “Have the Cardinals turned it around?” and “Have the Cardinals turned the corner?” In my view the answer is an obvious and resounding, NO! You don’t even begin to turn any corners or turn anything around until you’ve attained the staus of a .500 team. Once that plateau is reached, then there’s a chance to look around the corner and it’ll take at least 7 more games to determine whether or not you’ll even get there to take a look.
I’m always amused when they start the balloting for the AS game. I took a look at the 9 Cardinal players who were included on the ballot and no one’s even close to belonging except for Nolan Gorman.
I’m not used to these 2 day lulls in the action and think that after 19 straight games 1 day off ought to be plenty enough for these cupcakes…
I don’t know if anyone’s noticed, but Edman’s second on this team in runs scored with 29. He’s also crossed HP most of those times while being placed way down in the order. When he reaches, he comes around and scores. I don’t think there’s any question that he should follow the Nootz in the order and possibly even lead-off if the Nootz were to taper off a bit.

What is amusing is two of our three outfield candidates aren’t even outfielders, they are infield utility players, but I agree that they and Noot are the best outfielders we’ve got. That is amusing, but its not funny. More like pathetic.
