Got to attend a few CWS games when I lived in Omaha 1999-2001. LSU vs Stanford was a great series in 2000 with LSU winning. Tickets were cheap and easy to get. Even switched my bleachers tickets for 3rd base boxes the day prior to game 2 of the final for no cost. Found out later, after I had moved away, that Bob Gibson lived right behind Rosenblatt.

Missed today’s exhibition of futility. Now we’re back in the cellar where we belong. Just under the Cubs. Two stinkers at the bottom of the pile.

An aunt and uncle lived in Omaha and my parents would visit them most every summer when I was a kid. Now and then we would go to a CWS game, and sometimes an Omaha Royals game as well – hit the zoo sometimes also. Always enjoyable.

The collegiate National Club Baseball Association World Series is going on right now over in Alton, Ill.

Its a double elimination tournament amongst the top 8 club baseball teams nationally. We will be going to a game tomorrow night between Penn State and the winner of tonight’s game between Colorado and Florida State. Its great fun. Decent baseball on a small scale.

If you haven’t been to Lloyd Hopkins Field in Alton, its the poster boy for up close and personal. The dug outs are actually dug into the ground and you can sit on the roof of them. We were sitting there the first day of the tournament and a batter came back to the dugout and I said ‘nice swing you’ve got buddy’, and he said ‘thanks pop’. That took me by surprise because I had completely forgotten that I am on old man. I guess I wasn’t for a little while.

That must have sucked worse than a poopie flavored lollipop to go to. Thank goodness I decided to bypass attending and stayed at home.

You can’t go out and lay an egg like that after the game they blew Sunday.

Not a good game but there are many to go still. We’ve got to start winning series against the AL Central, to be sure.

858booyah……you just mentioned lollipops. So, I just went out and bought me some. The multi-colored circular ones. Haven’t had one in decades.

    Thanks for the reminder!

College baseball is a lot of fun. There will be a regional this upcoming weekend just a few miles from my house. Big crowds will be in town no doubt. The local team usually makes it to Omaha more often than not.

I’ve have a soft spot for college club baseball since I ended up playing at that level after an injury permanently knocked me off the varsity team before the first game of my freshman year.
