I don’t know about the rest of you posters but I am so sick and tired of those ridiculous lineups that Marmol is putting out there. No wonder the offense is struggling. We either hit a homerun or we don’t score. Sometimes I wonder if anybody knows anything about baseball nowadays. I hope he wises up before it costs him his job. At this point I am not sure that’s a bad idea.

I don’t care for Marmol’s batting orders, especially hitting Goldy second. I can see it somewhat when Edman hits ninth, but not with Knizner at nine.
Still I would have Goldy at three. I think he would be up more often with base runners at three. In fact maybe you just flip him and Gorman – put Nolan II at the two spot, at least versus righties.
I have no problem with the necessity of the line-up placement to be fluid dependent on pitching match-ups, who’s seeing it well, etc. However, the 3 slot should be a relatively stable one that’s occupied by your best hitter and Goldy is clearly the best hitter on this team. Asking Gorman to occupy that slot is asking too much of the young player and that slot’s also been unexplainably occupied by…wait for it…Contreras numerous times this season. And there will never be a plausible explanation for Donovan hitting 5 at anytime during his entire career and he’s been placed there more times this season than he was during last Oct. fiasco. In my view, lead-off and the 3 slot are the two most important places in the order and there’s no question in my mind that the Nootz and Goldy, respectively, belong in those 2 slots.
All you have to do is see Goldschmidt with 10 HR’s and then have your eyes pop out of your head when you notice that 9 of them have come with the bases empty to know beyond a shadow of a doubt to move him to where he belongs in the batting order. You don’t have to be at all smart to figure that out.
It’s always been understood that your best hitter is in the #3 spot in the lineup. Contreras should NOT be there. And I don’t like Norm there either even though he’s been swinging it fairly well.
Granted a lot of things have gone wrong so far this year that has caused us to have such a poor record. But poor lineup construction certainly hasn’t helped.
Somebody tell Herzog to get over to Busch and straighten out Mo and OliMo.

No, I don’t like Gorman there either. He may make claim to that position of the order at some point during his career, but now isn’t his time.
Goldschmidt has stepped into the box with runners on base plenty of times. What happens is he doesn’t do diddly. We have seen it countless times, including recently.
Yeah, I know, Bling. I just have to believe that given enough opportunities from the 3 slot, that he’ll generate significantly more offensive production from that place in the order than anyone else on this roster. It’s not guaranteed to happen, but I genuinely think it will. Is Gorman a better choice? I don’t think so. Nado? Again, I don’t think so. Contreras? I won’t even answer my own question. Let’s try Donnie or even PDJ. Or how about Yepez, but only vs. lefties…You see what I’m driving at?
I wouldn’t object to seeing Goldy in the 3rd slot, its just that his bating order position isn’t the problem.
And the downhill slide to his norm has started for DeJong. We may as well trade him now whilst he has an ounce of trade value. He started out hot in his return but he’s going downhill now. And fast.
I’d stick Edman at SS and Mellow Yellow at 2nd. That’s Donovan, in case you are wondering.

No, and the problems are numerous and migrate from one area to another with alarming consistency. I’d also say that those two characteristics are a very common occurence for any team that sits at 7 games under .500 after playing 55 games. Today it was 8 consecutive pitches from the closer that were nowhere near the strike zone. Tomorrow’s problem is anyone’s guess.
Yeah, jj, they’ve played 4 games this month in which they’ve scored 10, 12, 16 and 18 runs. Fifty six runs in four games. The ’74 Steelers would win 4 in row with those totals…
Won games started by facing Stroman, Taillon, Sale, Kluber, Peralta, Burnes, Syndergaard and Kershaw.
Haha!…On a lighter note, the Cubbies had a Billy Williams bobblehead giveaway at Wrigley on Saturday to not only honor the great Cubbie OF’er, but also to reward their lovable fans with a heartfelt gesture of appreciation. The only problem was that instead of his correct jersey #26 on the back of the animated little figurine, it was adorned with the #1…Any Cubbie fan worth their salt knows that #1 belongs to Cardinal HOF great, Ozzie Smith…But it gets worse than that…There’s a towering flagpole atop of which flies a very large flag at Wrigley Field that clearly displays William’s name along with his #26. You’d think that someone even marginally associated with the Cub’s organization would have noticed it at some point in the last 36 years since his number was retired…Haha! Oh well, my dad could never even remember to say old Billy’s name correctly. He always referred to him as “The Great Willy Billiams”…Haha!
I don’t understand what y’all are whining about. That DeWitt fella said in an interview the other day that we have a good team, all is well and we have nothing to worry about, Mo is fine, doing a great job, Gersh is working feverishly behind the scenes to correct problems we don’t have, we are among the top spenders in the game, and three million customers can’t be wrong. So stop all this yakking about losing.

I think this team also needs a legit closer. Our bullpen is actually pretty solid but it’s made up by a group of set up guys. We can usually handle innings 6-8 but the 9th is a different deal. The analytical gurus will say that outs are outs but I am of the belief that it takes a special breed to get the final three. Kind of like the difference between shooting free throws with 10 minutes to go in the game vs 10 seconds to go in the game.
The computer seems to have settled on this lineup for some reason. Not that it has been exceptionally successful. Gorman had a hot six weeks so he’s now the next Babe Ruth, I get that, so I can understand him cemented into the #3 slot. But Contreras #5 is purely a money play. Other than a warm spell in late April he’s stunk at the plate.
