Uh oh…Now we need a top tier 9th inning guy along with 2 or 3 SP’ers who possess the ability to record 18 to 21 outs when they take their turns. Billy Jr. won’t like to hear that bad news. That’s a lot of box tops…Haha!
May 29, 2023 at 10:58 am #222587Contreras at 5? When the ink was still wet on the paper he signed I suggested him at 6 in the order before anyone even booked a flight to FL. He’s been placed at 3 a handful of times this season. If PDJ hadn’t of cooled of a little in the last few games, there’s a decent chance you’d see his name following Goldy’s. P. T. Barnum couldn’t dream up some of these line-ups.
May 29, 2023 at 11:31 am #222588Willson hit .225 away from Wrigley last season, so his current .220 BA is not too far off what we should expect. That’s a little below his career .240 away from Wrigley, but he’s been tailing off generally since his first few years in the league. Its probably not going to get any better. I wouldn’t expect the contract to age too well either. For now though, the narrative is BDW opened up the money gusher and Mo went out and signed us a middle of the order bat. So he’s a middle of the order bat, with an OPS+ of 85, and we’ve got him for 5 years. Maybe his D behind the plate will get better.
May 29, 2023 at 12:43 pm #222590Not as much of a difference as I would have guessed, but I’d still term the difference as substantial. For Goldschmidt’s career he’s averaged an RBI for every 5.6 AB’s from the 3 slot and an RBI every 6.2 AB’s from the 2 slot. He also has a career .397 OBP from the 3 slot as opposed to a .392 OBP from the 2 slot. I’m guessing that the slight discrepency in the OBP is due to either a few more BB’s or maybe even IBB’s as opposing pitchers were being a bit more careful with runners aboard and would rather face a weaker hitting 4 slot hitter. His career BA is .293 from the 3 as opposed to .310 from the 2, but I don’t care too much about that. I want to see him push more runs across HP.

p.s. there used to be guy that owned the drug store here in town named Fenton Walker.
May 29, 2023 at 1:18 pm #222594I like the line-ups, Rats, and last season I’d have had Eddie at lead-off, but until the Nootz tapers off on the OBP, I can’t move him out of that lead-off slot, so I’d have Eddie following him at 2. No matter how hard I try, I can’t come up with an argument against .383…
May 29, 2023 at 1:35 pm #222596Willie the Nootz in CF.
May 29, 2023 at 1:38 pm #222597Uh oh…Johnny’s watching from the sky box. Better be up on your toes, boys…
May 29, 2023 at 1:42 pm #222598We may see Johnny with the binocs today. He’ll be taking a closer look at the proceedings before he goes to his phone and hatches his plan. He’ll be formulating a trade for that blonde down there in the field boxes…
May 29, 2023 at 1:53 pm #222600Just tuned in to see Noot coming off with the trainer. Yikes.
We are Ofer 6 through two innings I see. That means the bottom of the order due up in the 3rd, so maybe we will get some production.
May 29, 2023 at 1:54 pm #222601Uh oh…Nootz exiting the game with what looks to be a bad tie rod end. That ain’t good. Hope it’s just a bushing.
May 29, 2023 at 1:57 pm #222602Pugs? I hope it’s not his Ball Joints..:)
May 29, 2023 at 1:58 pm #222603Waino coming with 88 mph FB, 84 mph slider, 72 mph curve.
May 29, 2023 at 1:58 pm #2226041-0 Kansas City in the top of the 3rd. Runner on 2nd, two outs. Melendez batting.
Bases loaded now. This could get hairy. Need an out.
May 29, 2023 at 2:09 pm #222605He walked off on his own, Rats, so we can be certain his ball joints are still intact. When those go, there’s no choice other than to call a wrecker…
May 29, 2023 at 2:11 pm #222606Waino sitting at 63 pitches through three innings. Not bueno. Another taxing day ahead for the bullpen. Sigh…
May 29, 2023 at 2:19 pm #222607Waino getting some favorable calls from the ump.
May 29, 2023 at 2:26 pm #222608That vaunted Royals pitching staff has a perfect game going through four innings. 12 up and 12 down.
May 29, 2023 at 2:27 pm #22260912 up, 12 down thru 4. At least Waino has kept us in it thru 4. Hopefully he can do 5 innings.
May 29, 2023 at 2:36 pm #222610A guy getting warm out in the pen in the 5th is bad. That guy is Matz. Waino close to 100 pitches, looks pretty much done.
May 29, 2023 at 2:42 pm #222611Safety squeeze not defensed well by the Cards. It was a good bunt so maybe nothing they could do, but not having anyone covering home is not the correct way to handle that. Waino has to be the guy to field that, and then decide if he has a play at home or throw to first. You don’t have your catcher come charging out to field it, leaving no one covering home. I should say that Waino looked to be caught completely flat footed. I don’t think he even made a move toward fielding the ball. Maybe Contreras saw or sensed that if he didn’t jump out there everyone would be safe.
May 29, 2023 at 2:48 pm #22261215 up and 15 down for the Cards offense.
May 29, 2023 at 2:58 pm #222613All 18 Cardinal hitters have now been retired.
This was a bullpen game for the 16-38 Royals, no?
May 29, 2023 at 3:05 pm #222615So, we’re being no-hit, and perfect-gamed, by a less than mediocre team through 6 in our own ballpark. But FO and manager think everything’s fine with this team to date. In their eyes ($$), I guess that’s true.
May 29, 2023 at 3:22 pm #222616
jj-cf-stlParticipant21 batters, 5 K’s, 0 BB’s and 16 balls in play.
If you wondered if BAbip is just another computer generated junk stat, here’s what a .000 BAbip looks like after 7 innings. BA on balls in play (bip) matters.
