Yeah, he’s 2-0, Jnevel…Perfect!
May 23, 2023 at 8:21 pm #221831Yeah I know. In BB’s world, that makes him our ace on the staff.

stlcard25ParticipantNice to get the win, but it’ll be tough having to out slug teams every game all season.
May 23, 2023 at 8:26 pm #221833Hjerpe threw a no hitter through 6 innings tonight but then got removed. He did walk 3.
May 23, 2023 at 8:28 pm #221834Pirates lose to TX in a 6-1 final at PNC. Brewers up 2-0 over HOU in the home half of the 6th at American Family Beer and the Cubbies up 6-2 over the Mets in the visitor half of the 6th at Wrigley.
May 23, 2023 at 8:30 pm #221835Yeah, Jevel, and he flashes that nice 6.33 ERA to go along with that perfect W/L record…Haha!
May 23, 2023 at 8:35 pm #221836I know 25. I had a great feeling coming into the year. I thought we’d have a juggernaut of an offense and be top 3 in the national league and probably top 2. That prediction has so far proven very true. I thought our bullpen would be really good. Like top 5 or 6 in baseball good. And they have been really good but maybe just below that mostly due to the early Hicks catastrophes. So I’m crediting that prediction as pretty true as well. But I thought our starters would be league average. And thus far they’ve been atrocious. Mikolas is solid. He wasn’t quite right in his first 3 starts but he has been as expected since. Montgomery was good early and awful as of late. Matz probably just is who he is – a decent #4/5 starter that we had hoped would be better. Flaherty has been bad outside of 2 games. Woodford was worse than I thought he’d be (although my expectations weren’t real high to start with). And Wainwright appears to have lost velocity and effectiveness. Plus, I was counting on Hudson, Libby, and C Thomas to be there should anyone fall. Hudson has been worse than awful and Thomas just looks pretty blah. But Libby may be good now. So yeah, I really failed in my evaluation of the starting pitching.
May 23, 2023 at 8:41 pm #221837Is Hudson still starting games at Memphis? I hadn’t heard mention of him in a while.
May 23, 2023 at 8:42 pm #221838I thought Hudson would be a real good MLB starter – like a solid #3 guy who in his career year would be close to an ace. But the familiar story of poor command really sabotaged him. Plus he has terrible mound “presence”. He just looks bad – does not show confidence.
May 23, 2023 at 8:56 pm #221841Yeah, me too, Bikemike. He won 16 games in ’19 at the age of 24. And like it or not, he’s 32-17 in his Big League career for a .653 W/L pct. Not at all too shabby. Edit…I also just now noticed that he’s never experienced a season in which his W/L record wasn’t above .500.
May 23, 2023 at 9:10 pm #221844We all know he can run, but did anyone notice little Eddie’s afterburners increase to wide open full throttle on that 4th inning 2 RBI triple? He burned around the bases in a big hurry. I’d say little Eddie’s pretty fly for a Korean and White guy…Haha!
May 23, 2023 at 9:18 pm #221846Is John Tudor still alive? Maybe they can give him a tryout…..
May 23, 2023 at 9:24 pm #221848The Nootz with another nice performance tonight has scuffled through that little dry spell he experienced. He was 2 for 5 with 2 RBI’s and I thought that 4th inning 2 out RBI base hit to push Eddie across from 3B was huge. Edman was situated at 3B with 1 out during the previous hitter and it would have been a shame for that run to have not scored.
May 23, 2023 at 9:28 pm #221849I was reading through the comments from earlier tonight regarding the Orioles. The majority of fans here in Arkansas are Cardinal fans but I have encountered some Oriole fans here. Most are those who were very fond of Brooks Robinson, who hailed from Little Rock.
May 23, 2023 at 9:29 pm #221850It looks like we are going to have to outslug teams until late July when Mo does his annual dumpster dive for starting pitching.
May 23, 2023 at 9:31 pm #221851He’s still around, ZTR, but it’s hard to believe the former LHP’er will be 70 on his next birthday. He’s a little older than I am and it sure doesn’t seem that too long ago when I watched a couple of his turns from the cheap seats at Busch Memorial in ’85. I’d sure go back if I could…Haha!
May 23, 2023 at 9:36 pm #221852gscottar…That pronounced drawl that Brooks delivered immediately told you he was either a hard scrabble baseball player or a volunteer infantry member of Robert E. Lee’s Confederate Army…Haha!
May 23, 2023 at 9:38 pm #221853Brooks Robinson – I met him at the collectibles show a couple years of so ago. Great guy. Was a Cardinal fan growing up, but the Browns/Orioles were after him and told him that signing with them would give him a quicker ascent to the big leagues.
Great player. 1964 AL MVP, although Mick was probably the “real” MVP that year.
May 23, 2023 at 10:09 pm #221855According to BR, Robinson was paid $35,000 for that ’64 MVP season…He also placed 2nd, 3rd twice, and 4th in the AL MVP award vote during his all time great HOF career. And those of us who were around to watch in ’70, saw him entirely dominate with both the glove and the bat to be named WS MVP and help the O’s to secure their second franchise WS Championship.
May 23, 2023 at 11:49 pm #221857I once subscribed to MLB.TV for a while and at times I’m tempted to once again sign up.
1td, I don’t earn commissions from MLB.tv, but I thought I’d tell you something I’ve seen recently on their site that might interest you. They had a 50% off sale (139.99 down to 69.99) running through May 22 I think. The site now says the sale has been been extended. So if you’re going to do it, now is a good time. Also, I think I remember you saying you were in the Navy years ago. Vets get a 35% discount, which I have used successfully. Not sure if that can be added on top of the 50% sale.
You are right, it is great to watch any game you want. Even west coast games are on the table for me since I retired and no longer answer to an alarm clock.
Also you mentioned previous difficulty ending your plan with MLB.tv. For what it’s worth, I did that 2 years ago because I decided to go with Extra Innings through my cable provider. The process was pretty simple at that time, just a few clicks on the computer. I think I remember you do this somewhere in your “Account” section where they have options to pay, extend, cancel, etc.
